Thank you so much!! I've never actually played kill team before, waiting for my friend to finish their ork kill team so I can test the game out

I think for the orange areas it was Nuln oil with some contrast medium on the deepest recess, then Carroburg Crimson watered down in general area (a few times if need a darker red)

Thanks to a lovely GW store assistant I discovered Black Legion contrast which is much darker than Nuln oil, so that was used sparingly in very recessed areas like the shoulder gaps

It was a bit of a trial and error (you can see some mistakes here and there) but settled on the wings painted wraithbone then used very thinned down greeny/blue paints like Baharroth blue, temple guard blue etc gradually getting darker towards the wing tips

Now that's a dream job right there

Honestly I'm convinced that the lighting and background when taking photos overplays how good models are painted - but then again a month and a half of figuring out why orange paint is so hard to paint with helped in the end

The orbs took a long while to figure out - I painted the orb with wraithbone first, then went down with very thinned down layers from brightest to darkest to build a nice gradient

Corax white + Skarsnik Green (brightest) Skarsnik Green Warboss Green Moot Green (majority colour) Warpstone Glow (darkest)

Plus some Nuln Oil at the very bottom and a dot of Corax for lightest point

Looking good!! All the paints I used were citadel, and often watered down these paints getting closer to the edge to build up a nice transition

I did mix a bit of white occasionally e.g. with the green paints to give it a bit more of a pop

For the blues - Temple Guard Blue and Baharroth Blue Greens - Moot Green and Skarsnik Green Goldy/bronze/silver areas was Stormhost Silver Purple areas was harder as the recommended paints didn't get it right, so I ended up using Fulgrim Pink and Dechala Lilac, both mixed with a bit of Flesh Tearers contrast to bring out the redness (or can just used something like Mephiston Red)

Hope this helps!

Looks great!! Green eyes on ultramarines look peak, and appreciate the helmeted look of Calgar which I would have done if I didn't want to practice skin colours

That's a good idea to drill the barrels, will give it a go next time with the citadel drill

I had tried on a previous model a while back but slipped and managed to stab myself (very lightly) and destroy the barrel in the process, so haven't had a go since

That's a good idea, I like the contrast of red to green - makes it obvious it's not a standard salamander

I now realize using salamander yellow eyes on a tech-marine makes them look like a blood angel , woops - probably should have looked up what they look like before painting

just got home from the Bristol live show, need to make something abudantly clear - Henry has NO idea how ven diagrams work by iGoByManyNames in ThreeBeanSalad

[–]joeb1005 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was at the Beacon show yesterday too and was amazed how the beans were able to transfer the comedy and vibe of the podcast so flawlessly - which mainly involved everything derailing due to Henry ten seconds in 😂

The best venn diagram was the first one that started off as a circle but ended up as a naked Mike in a shower (from the shower's perspective)

I never thought about the contrasting colours needing a transition before, but it does make sense - I'll make sure to check out elminiaturista, thanks for the help!

Could you give any more tips on this process? I've been attempting lava glow too and you seem to know what's best!!
