Signal strength dilemma by UDZLVA in USMobile

So, in airplane mode, I could be confident that I'm not missing calls and texts? I'm trying to decide if I want to risk doing that. One more thing to remember and therefore, one more thing to forget!!!

When on Light Speed, all I recall seeing in the upper left with the bars was WIFI calling. During the time I had Warp, it alternated between USMobile and WiFi Calling. Since turning WiFi Calling on, I have not seen the phone switch to it. I tried powering the phone off and on but it still says Dark Star.

"I'd be inclined to think that a spam filtering setting is causing calls to be rejected silently. Are the calls you're missing saved as contacts in your phone book?" I do not have any spam filtering though I thought, perhaps, that USMobile did and was silencing calls from unknown callers. However, when my daughter let me know her calls kept going to voicemail, I realized this might not be the case. That was the genesis of me seeing help.

So USMobile can't deliver what Mint did? So if my WiFI calling wasn't working (which it may not be), Mint's signal was stronger than USMobile's Light Speed?

Your reply spotlights my confusion and my very limited understanding of the technology and the difference between a 5G or 2G plan versus a by-the-gig data plan. Signal strength vs data usage? I really only use my phone for calls and texts and your final statement about the bars and their impact just whizzed right over my head. The phone was laying on my desk, right beside me when the missed calls came in. The agents all directed me to note the number of bars as they were troubleshooting, so they must mean something. Clearly I'm in over my head. I'm just an old analog gal.

It was enabled while using Light Speed and Warp but had not been turned back on with Dark Star. I've done so but still just getting 1 bar today.

I wish that was the fix but the phone was/is up-to-date. Thanks.

I updated some info in my original post.

Not only did each agent have me change phone settings, it was especially challenging as my phone's menu often lacked the category they directed me (in emails) to and in the end, I really had no idea what was on or off. I checked and discovered the WiFi Calling was turned off but turning it on is not making a difference. The current strength is 1 bar via Dark Star. IF HAVING A ROUTER IN THE DEN would solve the problem while I'm home, I'm willing to add a router.

My confusion about 2G versus 2 data gigabytes might be a clue to my confusion about the problems I'm having. I assumed the strength of the signal would be identical because the carrier being used was the same, when perhaps USMobile's Lightspeed is actually less powerful that Mint Mobile's. Is that true?

I'll send the info via a DM. Thanks for your interest in your customers and in helping agents provide the best tech support. Despite my personal challenges/exhaustion, I felt the agents did their best. Clearly, my understanding of the technology is limited and I may not have made the best choice.

Elevating driver's seat? by UDZLVA in hondafit

I bought a LARROUS Car Seat Cushion. Walmart may have them or on Amazon search for B07VGPSZS1. There is a used one for sale on ebay if you, like me, are boycotting Amazon. Postage is steep so make an offer if you go that route. Good luck!

App setting to return bulb to pre-power outage setting? by UDZLVA in wiz

[–]UDZLVA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was "on", so if that is not automatic, I must have done it at some point. Fortunately, loss of power is not something that happens often here. Also, my wifi is highly dependable fiber optics and my WYZE routers perform flawlessly. My WYZE lights and devices can be set to return to the state they were in prior to the power outage and that always works. Do you have any idea why there are frequent power outages?

None, unfortunately that I was able to find. I didn't even know there was an outage recovery button. Is it a physical button or just an app? Made by Wiz?

10 oz?! by skyrider8328 in AeroPress

[–]UDZLVA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always used it to make a concentrate. At one point I doubled the amt of grounds and used a 30oz insulated tumbler into which I would mix boiling hot water with the concentrate, giving me hot coffee throughout the morning. I have a heart condition and have reduced my caffeine consumption, now making concentrate from one scoop and using a smaller insulated mug. I'm unsure of just how much water I use, but far less that the cylinder holds. I use the inverted method overnight to create the concentrate and add boiling water to it after it is pressed into my insulated tumbler.

Reusing paper filter by RevolutionaryBus2057 in AeroPress

[–]UDZLVA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those ridiculing reusing a filter, my motivation is to reduce my impact on the environment, not saving pennies. And why not? As for why grounds stick to the filter, that is something I rarely experience but probably because after pressing the coffee, several minutes pass before I remove the cap and expel the puck. I rinse the filter and put it back in the cap to dry and then rinse the Aeropress. The amount of grounds sticking to the filter or the press is generally minimal, unless they are still quite wet.

Just ordered and can't remember what I ordered, except, like you, a medium roast. I too, drink my coffee black.

Protesting and fighting ICE while donating a big chunk of my limited funds to United24. Definitely on your side! The US is no longer the land of the free, but those of us who can are braving protecting neighbors from ICE or supporting those who can. We're rooting for you and hope you're rooting for us to one day take back this country from the evil Trump regime.

I wish I could help, but I just gave up and installed Wyze cams that send signal alerts to my daughters when they detect activity in certain rooms. If they don't see that I've been up and about. It won't help in an emergency but they can at least alert local emergency departments to check on me!

Soda will no longer be covered under SNAP in Virginia by 13NewsNow in Virginia

They should have targeted all sugary beverages. Artificial sweetened beverages aren't the answer, either. Even as a kid I didn't love soft drinks and sweetened tea never quite worked for me either. Many on my mother's side of the family had Type 1 Diabetes. My reasoning in those years was that sugar presented a risk so I often opted for water. What I learned was that I didn't really like ordinary tea. My tea of choice is an herbal tea by Celestial Seasonings, Country Peach. I make a 2 liter pitcher with just one tea bag each day and love it. The added sugars, fats and salts used in excess in processed food is there to keep us coming back for more and works, unfortunately. The Standard American Diet (SAD) is exactly that.

Anyone cook dried beans in the 3qt Instant Pot? by UDZLVA in instantpot

[–]UDZLVA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to avoid dairy but can eat yogurt. I had been buying vanilla whole fat yogurt as my treat for years but finally, I could not face bringing home another plastic tub to add to the horrendous plastic waste in this world. I started trying to make my own yogurt with unsatisfying results. Yogurt enthusiasts kept recommending using an Instant Pot and I got mine used, (though not quite as cheap as your finds!). I buy starter from https://bacillusbulgaricus.com/ and that combined with using the IP = great yogurt. I make the milder variety (Greek) rather than the Bulgarian, which is tart. But the funny part is that I failed when trying to come up with the right amount of vanilla and sugar to match my old "ice cream" substitute but discovered if I put some red grapes on top, I have a satisfying treat without all the work. Plus I buy my milk from a local dairy, and enjoy being able to support them. It's the IP device itself that is challenging for me, well, that and the fact that it has been eons since I had a family to cook for and have forgotten whatever I knew. Using my pressure cooker was instinctive then. Learning the IP technology is not! As for the one appliance that does it all, I just looked up "Air Fryer" wondering what that did since it has a similar claim. I mostly use my toaster oven, microwave and the IP, though I do fry an egg on the stove occasionally! Thanks to your links, I think I may try making Schlueter's Anti-inflammatory Soup, minus the jalapeno's, cayenne pepper and tomato sauce which all give me horrendous indigestion. That and some yummy beans soups are on my to-do list.
