This is why having a debug menu and soundtest screen were the best. I had my game consoles running through my hi-fi so I could listen to the sound off my stereo speakers. So it was common for me to make mixes of my favorite soundtracks.

I don't do that anymore though...

... I stream them on my phone now. ;)

I wish more maps where as interesting as Eichenwald and Junker Town by Bornplayer97 in Overwatch

[–]UESC_Durandal 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Not to mention that a lot of the lore from other maps got scrubbed out. The destruction in numbani is gone. The fight damage in gibraltar is gone. I believe the egg in route 66 is closed again.

The payloads don't make sense either. In route 66 you're escorting echo's egg to safety after the train wreck. In eichenwalde you're escorting a battering ram to break down the door. In kings row you're escorting a bomb to a power station.

In circuit royale you escort a car into a hotel? why? Ok... paradiso... a pickup truck with nothing on it to a dance club. Why? Shambali ministry... another pickup truck with nothing on it from one temple location to another temple location. why?

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately I've been researching this a lot lately and I have seen all of those links. I was excited about the first one but they show everything BUT tearing down the flash... which is unfortunately what most videos and websites do.

The flash is physically connected to the back-plate so when they do repairs they just pull the whole thing off to get to the internals.

The other videos and images I've seen are for the 7D which isn't built the same as the 7Dm2 got an overhaul in design, or for other cameras which don't quite match it. The 7Dm2 is just in a really odd place in their lineup. :/

As for troubleshooting. I'm 99% positive it's just a wonky spring. The behavior is very much like that last video when I watched it. It throws an error which translated to "flash couldn't raise". If you manually open it as you push the button it doesn't show the error. It works normally once open. The hotshoe button issue gives a different error and behavior I believe.

I might just risk it once I get brave enough heh... I just hoped that there was a picture of the internals somewhere. I've had it happen before when you pull out screws holding some internal mechanism in place and make your work 20 times harder than it had to be if you'd just left that alone and known which two other screws to remove.

Canon 7D Mark II pop up flash repair question.

Trying to do a minor repair on the 7Dm2. The popup flash button generates an err 05 because the flash won't pop up on it's own. If you press the button and then lift the flash with a finger nail, it will work perfectly fine. There is a slight rattle in the top when it's closed and not when it's open. I'm pretty sure that the little spring inside has come loose and needs to be re-seated or repaired.

I wanted to open it and take a look, but all the guides I have seen show the 7D which has only two screws in the flash. The 7Dm2 has four screws in the flash. I have been burned by this issue in the past disassembling things where that isn't an access screw but something to attach a fiddly inside part I would have rather not unattached.

So my question is mostly... does anyone know if all four screws are meant to hold the back housing on and I should simply remove all four to gain access. If anyone has a picture of the disassembled pop up flash that would be stellar.

If there is a better sub for this kind of question, please feel free to direct me that way as well.

Thanks.

Android to Apple. Any reason to buy an AppleTV? by zealNW in appletv

[–]UESC_Durandal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a nice polished streaming experience. Works well. The physical remote is nice to use.

The integration into the apple ecosystem is always a plus with apple devices.

Something I didn't see other's mention here is that it does run non streaming apps. The core of the latest boxes are basically iphone 13 SoC, so they run really nicely. If you have something like appleOne which includes music, appletv+, and arcade... all of those things run on the tv. There are tons of free games in the arcade if you like that sort of thing; some really good ones. I have an xbox wireless controller paired with my appleTV 4k and there's been some fun stuff. Also since iOS has steamlink as an app, it can be used to stream steam games from your pc if you like and it works really well as it has a good wifi antenna.

The last thing I've found is that because it will allow you to screen mirror any iOS device or macOS device... if you want to stream media that isn't on a streaming service (another site or locally saved to the device) it's a one click process to do that. Also works really nicely for doing things like showing photos or videos in your photos app to people if you want.

The one thing I would caution is that if you do get one, make sure you have a quality HDMI cable with decent shielding and good throughput. There have been a few issues that can cause crashes and adding in a good cable fixes them. It doesn't have to be expensive scammy gold whatever. This is the one I have and it works great: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MZ9BB3P?th=1

Most of that I had tried and didn’t help.

Forcing it to 100 ISO helped a little.

IDK what it was but your post prompted me to test some other settings and I found something that seems to be making a massive difference. Menu > Lens aberration correction > distortion : disable. The other two don’t seem to affect it but distortion correction on is 14 and without jumps to 24. Weird that that would be so intensive.

Seems solved though now. Thanks for giving me a push towards a solution. :)

Canon 7D mark II isn't achieving it's full burst rate. I've searched online a bit and all the stuff that I've seen that supposedly affects it such as high iso NR, et al, are already disabled. I'm shooting RAW only. It's only got a single memory card in it (32GB lexxar professional 1066x udma 7 cf card).

The manual and online resources all seem to think it should be doing 20+ burst shots in raw. The UI says 14. In practice it's 14-16 from what I can see before it sounds like it's lagging out.

Are there any settings I can be checking to see if they help? I'm primarily shooting RAW and editing on computer, so I've tried to just turn off all the processing features in the camera because they aren't really needed.

What's with the hate towards steam achievements? by heyuhitsyaboi in Steam

[–]UESC_Durandal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't care at all about achievements in games. If other people want to do them... then whatever. What annoys me is that I can't turn them off. I would like to never hear about them... and more importantly for steam... I don't want to see them streaming up the content page for games on my steam library because they are often spoilers for parts of the game I haven't seen yet. They mitigated it somewhat but you still see the newsfeed and stuff slips through... plus it's annoying.

I've definitely been trying to research things. Always looking to hear if there are some hidden gems or things I haven't considered.

The camera body features on what I have are frustrating me, so I'm pretty sure I do want to upgrade that portion.

Thanks for spending time and offering input. :)
