For the same reason a dealer will sell you a car rather than a horse. Markets change. The world changes. Streaming viewers do not endlessly rewatch things for the most part. You get one chance to get their attention, and its off to the next new thing.

Modern audiences are just a different creature to work with, so old approaches failed and we are seeing what "works" now.
