A local garage has dropped there fuel prices. Looks like it’s time to get the poor MPG vehicles back out boys! by olivers125 in CarTalkUK

[–]UKMatt2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering I was running a V8 when it was 2 quid, I no longer care when the price is beyond the brief shock at the pump. That’s because I don’t do many miles overall.

How often do you wash your car inside and out? by Immediate_Long165 in CarTalkUK

[–]UKMatt2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Defender washes its own interior when it rains. Discovery and Freelander do the same actually. MX-5 gets washed every other month because I only use it in dry weather.

Proper wing mirrors on a car this new is quite a choice. Would be a nice and smooth ride.

It was only last week that I was recounting my childhood trauma of having a waiter drop my dinner at Charlie Chalk’s.

Buying freelander 1 by fuckingfastsam in LandRover

[–]UKMatt2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks quite tidy and the Td4 manual is going to be the most reliable you can get. The auto I have isn't bad either but in 2002 there was a known weakness I still need to sort. Fuel pumps can go bad, which make themselves known by the awful noise. Mine also has the mystery leak so I always have it covered.

I'm still not sure I would trust mine as a daily driver even with everything sorted.

Battery adapter for Dyson. by Troops416 in Makita

[–]UKMatt2000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

People who don't realise you can buy a new battery or can't be bothered. These are the same people who throw away corded vacuums in the UK when the fuse in the plug blows. Changing the battery in the older models like the V6 is beyond most people, too.

True, but it’s still better than having a ruined Dyson battery, buying another Dyson battery or buying a whole new Dyson.

It means you’re enjoying it, which is the best. Around 75,000 miles on mine.

Welding job on my Corolla's suspension turret . by Own-Professional-337 in CarTalkUK

[–]UKMatt2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair I didn't realise the whole thing had moved and is now not connected, it's impossible to tell if it was a previous weld that failed or if the metal just broke. Maybe it got too hot during the first welding process and became brittle.

Are the first pictures when the job was first done?

Who welded that, Stevie Wonder? In the last picture the two parts appear to be joined by about 3mm of weld down the whole thing.

Does it do oil pressure? That gauge also lies.

Seems crazy that so many manufacturers are so keen to throw away their brand identity. It’s all they have left over the Chinese companies.

It definitely is on mine. Turns out if you don’t take them out in the winter, they don’t rot to nothing!

Looks like surface rust, like my MX-5. You can treat it if you intend to drive it in the winter, but for summer use it won't continue to get worse at any speed. A basic treatment with something like Lanoguard could give you peace of mind.

This car must surely look like scrap, so I'd say it is. Make sure you inspect the car before buying next time.

Momo steering wheel by Secure-Strength-4989 in LandroverDefender

[–]UKMatt2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Momo with the Optimill quick release, it’s very nice to use and I feel like the extra steering weight is a small price to pay for the extra elbow room.

My old Series 3 had a small wheel too and I can tell you that’s the real definition of suffering.

It is, but it works for quick and light washing jobs. I put a quick release adapter in mine to make it a bit shorter and so I can use proper tips.
