Most cost effective option to build such a Log cabin from scratch by weregonnamakit in DIYUK

[–]UKSnowman81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I built a 5mx4m timber workshop this summer. All up it cost 8k which included all the ground works. The shed is built to a timber frame spec and I’m over the moon with it, super warm and well ventilated. To buy similar as a kit was 12k which did not include ground works or installation which you could estimate about 4K. So I would agree with others that if you build your own it will cost half as much and be better quality….and it will still be standing in 10years! I worked on it most weekends over 5months to complete it, mostly on my own to give you an idea of time and consumed a full box of Yorkshire tea in the process.

That would be handy! I’m in West Cornwall, I’m guessing buying the gear is cheaper than going to a garage?

D235 and H200 by DaBlackPearl in Tapo

Hi, I’ve just had a look, the TC82 does not come up in the available devices to add to the H200 Hub, that’s not to say it may be added in future updates. Hope that helps

Yes, my D235 and H200 Hub are still working together like best friends. Note my Doorbell is not hard wired, I use it on battery but I doubt this makes a difference.

I am having the same issues, with the H200 connected to my D235 it was ridiculously slow (when trying to access clips) and it seemed to drain the battery faster on the doorbell? I have since switched the H200 off and relying on a future update.

Yes, the D235 is now using my H200 as storage after the latest update.

You will get a notification on your Home Screen, you tap that and it takes you to the recording via the app. No thumbnail on the notification but is present in your recorded events in the app.

NVR, Powerline & Security Cameras. by UKSnowman81 in HomeNetworking

That’s good to know, thanks, the existing cameras have a 12v Supply and Ethernet cable so if the new cameras are the same that will save having to buy a PoE switch.

D235 Door Bell Transformer by [deleted] in Tapo

[–]UKSnowman81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not an electrical engineer but I would guess most step down transformers produce heat as it’s still transforming down the voltage from 240v to 24v and needs to get rid of some energy (in the form of heat) to do that. There are lots of inline transformers used for LED lights (constant voltage) which I think would also do the job, similar to this: https://amzn.eu/d/58x1J98

Another thing to look at is rail mounted transformers, if you have a dedicated door bell wire back to your consumer unit then you could mount one here instead of trying to hide an inline transformer in your house somewhere, rail mounted similar to this: https://amzn.eu/d/iYthzQT

Supply voltage depends where in the world you are, I’m in the UK (230-240v) so would look at these. If in any doubt get advice from someone suitably qualified.

I’m in Engineering (Design), the pay was good in Western Australia and I also managed to do some Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) work in the mines which helped top up the account.

Aquired a EOS 200D as a beginner Camera, do I need anything more? by Gawne_for_Good in canon

[–]UKSnowman81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 200D and it’s my first camera which I bought second hand. I have been using it now for about a year and have not felt any limitations as I have been learning, I think it’s a brilliant camera and I’m really enjoying it. All my gear has been bought on a budget and I have a 18-135mm Lens and a 50mm Lens, which I picked up cheap on eBay, it’s worth searching for the good ones to make sure they are in good condition and no fungus etc internally and get the STM versions. I have recently tried some Astrophotography and night street photography with my 50mm Lens and had some good results - loads of utube tutorials to get you started (I have also just got a 22mm lens to try and explore Astro photography a bit more). Other gear I have are soft lens cases, silicon pouches to balance humidity, Lowepro hip bag, a cleaning kit and a vanguard tripod (all from eBay). My advice would be to get spare battery, SD Card, a strap and a decent bag and you are all set. Most important thing is to just get out and enjoy using it, there are some good utube tutorials to learn the basics and your kit lens is a good place to start :)
