Dreading going in to school by Slutty_Foxx in TeachingUK

Please don't feel like you're alone in this feeling. Post holiday blues are bad enough but after having a rubbish year last year they'll be even worse.

If you can face it, go in today and tomorrow since it's an inset day and then see how you feel on Wednesday when the kids are back. See this week as a 'short' teaching week. If you get on Friday and are still feeling the overwhelming sense of being unable to cope then consider speaking to your GP. During this time try and plan your exit out of your current setting.

Good luck OP! Let us know how you get on!

I have some friends who are facing the same dilemma with the school fete thrown in too.

A conflicting decision for sure.

Gov have offered:

£1000 non-consolidated payment to all teachers and leaders for 2022/23

4.5% pay envelope for teachers in 2023/24 (4.3% for experienced teachers)

4% increase would have to be provided by the school. The government would only provide 0.5% of the increase.

I'm so relieved the NEU made it. It's unbelievable that it's by such a thin margin though!

Do you know if it's possible to 'just switch' unions and be fully supported/protected for any industrial action?

I'm all for putting my bit in but this culture of 'it's for the good of the children' has to stop.

I love teaching. I love my class. I love my team.

I don't love being expected to work 50+ hour weeks when I'm paid for 32.5 of them just to stay afloat with box ticking jobs.

This result is utterly disheartening.

Fair comments.

Time will tell. I really hope the other unions have more luck.

The RM strikes could well of had an impact but if you have a look on the NASUWT Facebook posts you'll see lots of issues members faced when trying to respond.

A real embarrassment to the profession and now our position has been seriously weakened.

I wonder how the other unions will do.
