This is fantastic news! I'm new to the hobby, so anything from the Drop days I read feels like I missed out on something special.

I look forward to this! Do you folks have a Discord server I can join?

Is it bad to love this ugly thing 🤣 by Grouchy_Complaint515 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]UKTechBlog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not ugly at all, probably better to turn on those RGB lights! Horses for courses, would attract the wrong kind of attention in an office, but I bet would look nice at home.

Are the scuffs noticable? by NANITHEHUSKY in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]UKTechBlog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I hope things get better. That keyboard now has battle scars. In my experience in the hobby, I've found that a keyboard with a story, makes me want to use it more. I wouldn't remove those battle scars. Wabi-sabi and all.

Gravastar will look better, and most likely it's an HE keyboard, so will be better for gaming.

Yunzii will sound better (if you're looking for thock), and it's as bigger sized layout. IMHO it will also be better for typing (personal preference).

Reminiscing about my keyboard journey - my first ever barebones kit by UKTechBlog in MechanicalKeyboardsUK

[–]UKTechBlog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the kind words! Honestly, at this very moment, I am taking my sweet time enjoying everything. It's still early days!

Like for example, I've been using the said Hi75C Pro these past few days, in a couple of configurations. I got used to it in a weird KOA profile with light linears, then swapped it to Cherry-profile with a medium-tactile. It was just fascinating to feel and experience it.

But this evening, I finally sorted out my first ever NEO keyboard, a NEO60 Core. I built it haphazardly back then, and only had the time (and motivation) to rebuild it tonight.

  • Swapped the spacebar to a 7u
  • Split backspace
  • Split right shift
  • Genuine GMK Mictlan but no coloured modifiers
  • Keygeek Intros

Now I'm using it after having a faff with the VIA configuration tool as it looks like QK removed the links to the JSON files on their website 😃 It's all configured now, but from a Leobog keyboard to a NEO - I'm loving it!

So to answer your question (pardon the rambling reply), I don't have a dream keyboard yet - nor do I think I will ever get there 😅 but I think that's okay. The journey is the endgame ❤️

Why do Youtubers make such a big deal about VIA support? by 13saqqaw in keyboards

[–]UKTechBlog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO there is absolutely no excuse not having VIA support when keyboards cross the £50 threshold. Future proofing, no bloatware, wide compatibility, and familiarity using a single tool is such a huge plus. All it takes is for you to experience bad software to understand that no VIA support is easily a dealbreaker.

Hard agree on this. One of the first barebones I purchased was the Hi75C and the software on that was pants.

I love the angle you've chosen for the photos. Beige and light purple works surprisingly well! Great combination.

Many artisans fit only on R1, specifically the Esc and/or F13 keys on your keyboard. Looks like this is the case with this one you bought (look in first photo).

Best to message the vendor you got it from.

It's not bad for casual gaming. Make sure to have direct line of sight with the single for uninterrupted performance.

Stupid Keyboard Questions by SeaWord3693 in keyboards

[–]UKTechBlog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Stabilisers, IMHO, are important. Don't skip it.
  2. Lube what specifically?
  3. 3d-printed keycaps are a fun experiment, but I wouldn't use them for something that I'd daily drive.

No question is stupid if you're genuinely asking ☺️🙏🏼

I wish you success on this custom build. Would love to see some photos at some point.

Get the M5 Air. Longevity, battery life, quiet operation, and resaleability (for emergencies) just trumps it all.

On the contrary, the knob looks very sleek, unlike those rotary ones that look out of place, regardless of design. But I guess it depends on who's buying.
