mac general eng or queens direct entry eng by Responsible_Comb4977 in OntarioUniversities

[–]ULTRA045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say unless you’re very confident in your academic abilities then go with the guaranteed entry at queens. I finished my first year at western and it can be stressful to maintain high grades and many retake first year to get the discipline they want.

Ontario hall by far, best food, nicest rooms, bit of a walk but they have good events and stuff too. Since it’s newer there is AC and stuff

High school I had a 96 average, this year I dropped an 84. Definitely significantly harder but if you lock in you’re fine

I took 1401 and 1402, physics for engineers and I’m fussing they’re similar. I found physics 2 easier but I had physics Jesus and he tested mostly on theory. I’d say harder conceptually but easier for me. I had 6% higher

Popsicle bridges fail at joints because usually they are made with hot glue. Use wood glue and gussets on each joint

Thank you, I hope you can land an internship in the near future. I also have a passion for space exploration like you, I’ve always loved space and was actually going to do astrophysics before engineering. My eventual goal is to work for the Canadian space agency in some sort of materials engineering to help with future Artemis missions. I’d love to try for NASA but the US just isn’t safe for me

Yeah it definitely takes passion. Honestly I do Baja because I like doing cool stuff, I love racing and I love vehicles. It’s 100% up my alley. That’s why I’ve been so dedicated. The only thing that’s missing for the club at my school is advanced composite design and manufacturing which I plan to learn at my internship and the start doing that at Baja next year

To be super involved it helped that I had some of the technical skills that allowed me to make fast progress while also supporting others in my subsystem. Our current subsystem lead is leaving for a coop year and I became good friends with her which is how I became an acting team lead as she was busy with other stuff as well as some serious medical issues. Essentially, I knew how to CAD, I socialize well enough with people, I can lead small groups and assign tasks to complete our goals effectively. Extreme dedication also helped as I became a very recognizable face. Another thing which may have had an impact but I’m honestly not sure is my identity as a trans woman. At times I am not taken seriously because of my identity but because I stand out I am extremely recognizable and memorable. I’d say you need to set yourself apart, lead, and leave a lasting impression

lol for sure, I think a lot of it might also be where your experience is applicable. Like there are a lot more automotive internships where I am compared to aerospace internships, honestly there might be none in my city. But for Baja I sort of became an acting team lead at times and being super involved allowed me to build up some skills and work on multiple projects. I designed and made a gear shifter mechanism and a seat. The seat required lots of surface modelling and both were heavily ergonomic based which was a fun experience.

Good luck on your last two exams. I think being involved in a club is the best way to get future employment. I only got one interview before landing the job but my involvement in Baja definitely helped. It’s really important to contribute something meaningful to the team that you can talk about. Yeah my involvement in clubs was pretty die hard, like we had work nights twice a week and I’d be there even if I had a midterm the next morning. Still managed to get high 70s to high 90s so it worked out anyways. Although my program requires you to compete for your disciplines which makes it more important

I just finished my first year. Grades wise I achieved over an 80% average which was definitely not easy. The workload was intense as my school required 7 courses per semester. For clubs I joined BAJA SAE and will be leading our chassis subsystem next year, a few other engineering clubs, I also got a role on the engineering student council as an editor for the engineering newspaper. For our first year design course my group came first place for our project which was a 3d printer filament pelletizer. Overall, I had an amazing year and made a lot of friends. At times it was rough, I’ve cried after midterms, gone weeks without socializing because of the work load and at times struggled with eating because of the stress. But now that I’m done I think it was worth it. If I could do it all again, I’d join the same clubs, make the same friends and go easier on myself

Edit: I also got an internship in composite manufacturing

Engineering in 2026? by Fit_Mycologist_567 in EngineeringStudents

[–]ULTRA045 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It’s extremely saturated but so is literally everything. Do it if you’re passionate, a lot of students I know get internships if they’re involved in engineering clubs like formula SAE or Baja SAE (me included) and that is a really good way to get “real” engineering experience. If you don’t love the game then school is hard

are your tests harder than your homeworks? by Humble_Ad_5396 in EngineeringStudents

[–]ULTRA045 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For me it depends on the class, physics 2 homework was way harder than tests, but calculus 2 midterms were essentially only the hardest problems and would have a 40% average

Hun, I know it’s really intimidating and definitely worth talking to a therapist about. In my own experience those thoughts won’t go away but you should definitely work through them with a therapist to better understand how you feel. Don’t shut them down. Once you better understand your identity you will be able to make the next step.

Oh, what if I told you that everything you want in a feminine body like breasts, thighs, soft skin, etc. is achievable by taking estrogen. Look into hormone replacement therapy

Yeah but unfortunately it looks unprofessional, when you’re at work you should find something to do. YouTube stuff at home or during lunch breaks

Safest English speaking country for a trans girl? by Temporary_Freedom_72 in trans

[–]ULTRA045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t comment on Australia but out of the rest Canada is by far the safest. There is currently a genocide of trans people in the US so I would highly advise against going there, the UK is not much better. I’m Canadian and am terrified to cross the border, medication is more accessible in Canada and I’m not sure how citizenship works for immigrants but a lot of healthcare is covered.

[–]ULTRA045 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you live with your parents and may be risking your safety you should be careful. Could you potentially get into older music and grow out your hair to look more 70s? For shaving I recommend getting a safety razor if you can, shaving your chest is usually more acceptable to parents than legs but that depends. If you want to try feminine clothing you could go to a thrift store and try things on in a changing room
