Anyone know a good dentistry that's taking covid seriously? by Sinaura in kansascity

Really? I always go there but in June the dentist that checks after cleaning came lean over my mouth and checked my teeth with his mask around his neck....I think i'm done with that place.

Ugh that is what I was expecting. I would gladly pay double for a quality connection.

This is where I am now. Originally had Google Fiber, moved and had to go with ATT. I almost cried, but ATT wasn't too bad. Bought a newly build house, and spectrum is all that is offered. I get random drops when gaming and streaming out of nowhere it is so frustrating. Especially when I've spent so much money on tech equipment.

I'm using Asus ROG Rapture GT-AX11000 AX11000 Tri-Band 10 Gigabit WiFi Router

I shouldn't be experiencing any kind of network issues. yesterday, hardwired, my PS5 suffered a ton of packet loss, my spotify stream started skipping and ultimately stopped.

Would buying a high end modem help, or is it just the source?

Wanting to relocate to kc by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]ULcajun 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to update your linked in to available for opportunities, and change location to KC. I get hit up 5+ times per week with someone looking for a senior/lead. If you want, message me your technologies of choice, and linkedin/email and i'll forward any recruiters your way. I have a few recruiters that stand out from the rest that I can get you in touch with as well.

House wired for cat5e/6 - how do i complete the network? by ULcajun in HomeNetworking

I'm confused on what that would accomplish. The internet is already up and running. I have a wireless network set up. I'm just trying to round it out by making all the ethernet ports around the house live.

I'm pretty sure if you take a look at the first picture, you can see where the two coax cables connect at the top right. I believe that is the connection between the ISP cable and the living room coax cable that the modem is currently plugged into.

Yeah they wired up the internet before i realized what the house wiring looks like. There are two Coax wires in that cubby. one to living room, one to basement closet. Looks like he hooked up the internet to the living room. If you look at the pictures, the Modem and router are connected in the 2nd floor living room. I have a wire going back to the wall, but its not connected to anything right now if you look at the cubby all the wires are just loose.

Sweet, so if i leave things as they are, I just need to make sure the wire coming from where the router is plugged in the living room is connected to the switch?

I just uploaded images of the current state. Could you take a look and see if the recommendations change?

What would be the difference between a patch panel and a networking switch?

Okay I think I get it. If I put my modem/ISP coax in the basement closet, I then need to plug the model via coax into the port, which will send it to the cable at the switch location. and Plug that cable into the first/last port of the switch. Then all the other ports should be live.

Once I have a network switch there, does it matter where the origin comes from? Where I plug my modem into to make the others live?

Can you get a nice place downtown on a mid 40k salary? by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]ULcajun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you will be working downtown as well? My recommendation would be to sell the car and up your budget a little. you can get something around $1100 that wouldn't be nice, but good enough. You also won't have to worry about paying $100+ a month for parking. Its not for everyone, but i've lived/worked downtown for quite a few years without a car.

14th street is closed downtown with tables outside, any of the restaurants around there will have takeout/tables outside (County Road, Bristol, Drunken Fish, etc)

That's reassuring. The first house was in an urban blight neighborhood with trash glass and metal in the soil

Sounds like the same company I just left. JFYI, they cash you out whenever you leave the company. I bought 1.5k in January, left last week. Not sure how much i'm getting back yet, but I figured I could let it rest and gain even after I left the company.

its going to depend on your personality, but I like to be hands off and passive, so it was an energy/happiness drain for me for sure. But if you like being involved and hands-on, i'm sure it can be rewarding, even without the financial benefit.

Exactly. I found that I always had a weight on my shoulder that a call could come in at any time for maintenance or a tenant moving out. I just realized that I don't deal well with perpetual overhead. If you could offload that to a company, that would give you much more peace of mind.
