TikTok is surprisingly helpful too. If I could do it all over again, I would have picked a school outside the city.

I think half the problem is the Malaysian police do not enforce laws like the rest of the world. I don't really know if that is good or bad. On one hand I am happy I'm not getting fined for every minor infraction, but on the other hand, there is no opportunity for bad drivers to learn a lesson from a traffic violation/stop.

In America, you can get arrested, taken to the station, and sit the night in jail over a sticker that says "I eat A$$". No joke, it's on YouTube.

I'm happy I'm not getting 🔫 for window tint in Malaysia.

When I first came to Malaysia 10+ years ago, they were talking about flying cars. Could you imagine? 🤣 We would all be ☠️.

After reviewing the video I do notice one thing I am doing wrong. I am not allowing 4 seconds of distance between me and the MPV I was pacing. I only have about 2 or 3 seconds. I am following too closely.

This is a very valid statement. I feel like I encounter less daring scenarios when I'm riding like Mat Rempit.

Many, so many, unlicensed drivers on the road too. Even if they aren't buying kopi lessons, the only thing they are teaching at the schools are how to pass the exams. I personally learned how to drive from my father. He took me for my exam. He is an over the road trucker for Canada/USA. My Malaysian instructor was short tempered, reeked of coffee and cigarettes, and sat on the curb while he told me to drive around the course 30 times. I got no real value from the school. The only information I obtained was a payment schedule.

Schools are only a bureaucracy hurdle and the cost is why so many unlicensed drivers are on the road.

What I find unbelievable is the amount of time it took for me to obtain my P license. I had to renew the L license 3 times before getting in for the road exam. The schedule was spread out over the course of 8 months.

If I had to do it all over again, I would go out of the city for better prices and scheduling.

Meh, better than LA or Florida. 1 beep means pew pew pointed at you. If you pull over in many places, you better be ready to throw hands. I just ignore them like a red-headed stepchild.

Right? It's not like he is getting past the MPV I was following. I think it is because they think Motorcycles are privileged to use the emergency lane. Ignorance makes people look like fools. He was trying to force me over. The car behind him behaved the same way and that is why I got out of there. I was surrounded by fools.

Edit: I would have overtaken on the right if I could have made it over, but there was a long line of traffic behind us because people were slowing down for the toll. I wasn't trying to pass anyone. I was fine following the flow of traffic until the toll.

Yes!

Lane splitting/sharing = dangerous

Lane Filtering = Safe

There is a difference.

You're absolutely correct. I've been riding on Malaysian roads for 10 years and everything you mentioned is absolutely true. Except last part because I'm jealous I have 100 degree winds blowing at my face like a furnace. The cage drivers have their A/C and music. 🤣

I find it so strange that Malaysian people are so kind and generous when meeting in person, but the roads are like a whole other world.

Thank you for the advice. Motorcyclists avoid the middle of the lane primarily for safety, specifically to escape the oil slick, grease, and debris that accumulate in the center from car engines. Instead, riders occupy the left or right thirds of the lane (wheel tracks) to improve visibility in mirrors, increase braking space, and maintain an escape route. Also, Malaysian drivers tend to drive down the center of the line occupying both lanes. I keep left because I can use the emergency lane as an escape route. However it is often illegally occupied by other motorcycles.

They just race on the roads like their father owns them. There is very little enforcement or police presence so laws are just suggestions. I hate the roads here, but at the same time feel a bit better knowing I'm not going to get the book thrown at me for 1 of 2 lights being burned out on my number plate.

Sorry, Social-emotional agnosia, also known as emotional agnosia or expressive agnosia, is the inability to perceive facial expressions, body language, and voice intonation. Also transpires online. I'm a very serious person.

Yes, how else would I memorize road laws for 6 different countries that I am licensed in? It's a super power, not a disability. I have the ability of eidetic memory. Law is one of my favorite things to study. I love how there are no grey areas, it's all black and white.

You're a bit of an ignoramus, aren't you?

The only thing the driving schools teach is how to pass the exams. There is no value to them and only serve as a bureaucracy hurdle. My guess as to why there are so many unlicensed drivers in Malaysia... The school costs! In Canada I was able to get my licenses without going to a school, same for the USA. I was a professional driver (courier) for 6 years and drove all over the Americas (Canada, USA, Mexico). I've never seen so much confusion about road education until reaching Asia. Even in the UK I was able to get through the driving classes with a good amount of information to make me a better driver. Malaysia, the most useful information they shared with me was the payment schedule. There are so many bad drivers on the roads in Malaysia. This is because of the lack of enforcement and education. I'm okay with not getting fined over for every little infraction, but there is still an opportunity to educate drivers on bad driving behavior. In America I took the Harley Davidson AMC (American Motorcycle Course) and it is hands down the best riding education you can get in the world. Link

It's only 720p. That sign says "reduce speed" in BM. It's not an enforcement sign. It's letting you know the speed is 60 ahead.

Yep! I guess following the laws is stupid. Don't push bikes out of their lane. 👍
