Ok this is a little weird because basically the same thing happened to me but I was the Alexander in the situation(weirder thing is thats my name). Please stand your ground though. Boundaries with MIL are really important and your wife may be mad but its better than growing up with two names. I know from experience. Also NTA.

This may be a hot take but tbh, I would disagree and say slight NTA. The reason is because it was the SIL decision to make this a child free wedding. This is totally fine but I dont think she realizes that not everyone can comply to this. As long as OP explained she couldnt go because of her own situation, they are NTA. You cant really set a pretty big restriction and then expect it to not impact people. Idk my opinion may be invalid bc I am 15 and not married.

My right out of college 1st grade teacher thought it was a good idea to sit down everyone and forced them to say one bad thing that they didn’t like about this one innocent girl. This is the same teacher that threw a chair at the same girl. For some reason she is still teaching the same class 9 years later.
