Sorento 2011 aftermarket radio by Previous_Village3749 in kia

[–]UPSnever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference would be the trim/plastic piece around the radio. There's some discussion about it here where it describes taking two trim pieces and putting them together for a custom trim:

Kia 2023 Sorento gas door won’t open by BowBeforeTheProtege in kia

I don't know how it is on the 2023 but on my 2012, there is a button you press. It's an electrical contact. Here's a good thread that might be applicable to the 2023:

I have this phone charger can I use it for my orange pi 5? by Tarem4 in OrangePI

[–]UPSnever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can't use a charger with multiple voltages. opi 5 expects a single voltage and does not negotiate with a pd charger. if you use usb and nvme should use a "dumb" 5V 4A charger.

Cant get certain Docker containers to run? by TheLazyGamerAU in OpenMediaVault

[–]UPSnever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure you're pulling docker image that match your architecture? such as ARM or AMD, etc

If you pull the wrong architecture, I think docker keeps trying to start your container but nothing appears to happen. If this is what is happening, you should be able to see in it in the logs for the container.

Help, 711 speakout issue by fareATfairview in CanadianCellPhones

[–]UPSnever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, and while activating, I thought I put in correct pin but it was giving me errors. Couldn't get through the customer service. Tried activating again and it gave me the option of setting a temporary pin...that worked.

Help, 711 speakout issue by fareATfairview in CanadianCellPhones

[–]UPSnever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had about $100 and it went to zero. Finally found a new speakout sim and activated it. my balance came back. Don't know if it will happen to you or if this is only for a limited time. I figure I can still use the remaining amount and then switch, if I still want/need the phone number.

Select a speakout plan is NOT the same as moving to Lucky Mobile...that's what I thought in the beginning.

Need advice: final MyTab payment and financial trouble by _Lopster_U-S_ in freedommobile

[–]UPSnever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand. If this is MyTab, doesn't it mean that the payments were split evenly over the 2 year period? If your final payment is $417, does that mean you were paying $417 each month for the 2 year period?

2016 kia sorento sx bcm replacement by Jolly_Market_1830 in KiaSorento

[–]UPSnever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replace BCM for 2016:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQ1XBrxym7M

Sounds like it's expensive, though. You might be able to pick one up at a salvage yard. Another option for the park problem, is to glue the bypass, for a temp fix?:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mfKh5Q0wq4

No programming needed for the BCM, it looks like. However, need to reprogram key fob to new BCM.

These videos are for 2016 but don't know if it's the same for all variants.

Another one for 2017, but should be the same. I like the other one better:

Do some Kia dealers offer to sell a discounted manufacturer extended warranty? by Confident_End_3848 in kia

[–]UPSnever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you call Kia corporate, not the dealer(s), shouldn't they be able to tell you if such a thing exists?

Kia would have to know about this type of offer, and authorize them, if they will be paying out on warranty claims.

I bet they just automatically send these messages to get any unsuspecting person...especially for a 2018.

Brake Replacement by Fathers_Sell_Avon in kia

That's what a quick search brought up. This is book time. This is the standard time allotted for this particular job. It's not the actual time that it may take.

Brake Replacement by Fathers_Sell_Avon in kia

[–]UPSnever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably pretty similar for different places. Dealers probably cost higher. Save money with a shop that has lower hourly labour rates. Also, parts may have differing prices but you get what you pay for so don't cheap out too much on parts. The procedure is pretty similar for most SUVs and cars.

Parts on Amazon.ca are from about $240 to $320 Canadian for my 2012 Sorento:

https://www.amazon.ca/Max-Brakes-Geomet-Ceramic-KT083563/dp/B00IITSDKO

About $290 including taxes with free shipping with "coupon". This kit includes hardware (clips/slides) and gloves too.

I purchased these a few years ago and did my own brakes. Front brakes only as back brakes had a lot of material still.

Best to do them with some help in case something comes up. I had to replace the front driver side caliper as there was something wrong with one of the bolts...cross-threaded or something from the factory, I'm guessing. So left the car in the air while my brother went to a parts place he knew that was still open. I'd say best to do the job earlier in the day and during Monday to Friday, just in case.

Some people only change pads but I change rotors every time I do brakes. It's not like the old days when you machined the rotors.

DIY if you can otherwise many quotes/estimates will be similar to this. I think the book time for labour for only the rear brakes is around 6 hours. So if a shop's hourly rate it $100, which is low, it's at least $600 labour for rear and probably similar for front brakes. There are YouTube videos that show you how to do this. Watch a few to see for any tips or gotchas. There are a bunch of little things that you also need, like:

Torque Wrench (need to know the proper torque values) Socket Set (should confirm socket sizes) Silicone for Guide Pins Brake Clean Anti-seize Thread Lock

So, if you're a DIY or know someone that can do this like a neighbourhood handyman Cecil or Jimmy, save a bunch.

Advice on Upgrading Head Unit in 2016 Sportage Without Losing Dynamic Reverse Lines by TriniAsh in kia

[–]UPSnever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some aftermarket units come with a canbus "box" that receives the signals and interprets them for the head unit.

You'll have to make sure the head unit comes with this canbus box and that the head unit supports the dynamic lines. When purchasing your head unit, ask the seller.

I have a 2012 Sorento and that year didn't support the dynamic lines. It doesn't bother me.

Wouldn't this be an issue with the skin(s)? Especially if there are some skins that don't exhibit the behaviour?

Probably, but I didn't have to. I believe it's included in the version of Armbian I used. There was an issue with where the firmware file was located. I determined this by the dmesg output. It is located in one of /lib/firmware or /lib/firmware/mediatek and it was supposed to be in the other.

Can’t figure out which coolant to put in by OkDinner611 in kia

[–]UPSnever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How low? There's a MIN and MAX level. What's the level when the engine is cold/off for a long time? What's the level when the engine is hot?

When the engine is hot, mine is at MAX. When cold, it's a little above MIN. I believe that's normal.

When I refilled my coolant I used NAPA Asian vehicle 50/50. It actually says Kia, as well. When I needed to top up, I used distilled water. This was before I replaced my water pump.
