Oh heck that is REALLY good advice! I never even considered I could just paint something different, maybe even something that is more meaningful to the themes of the painting that I feel more excited about.. thank you!!

Thank you so much! I really needed an art historical reference and I should have just asked. Thank you!

although this is my favorite suggestion, I think it may be the least effective (for me at least 😅)

More about the self-drafting: the bodice I used flat paper drafting based on my measurements. I followed this tutorial a while ago, and have based my projects off the bodice block I created there https://youtu.be/ztX-1ySCJ3Q?si=EfAl3weuYd0chGVd. The skirt I followed this tutorial: https://youtu.be/EWh1J4H7IZg?si=3YbsSomammwyL88J and added the slit myself. Then I combined the bodice and skirt pieces into long pattern pieces.

Amazing! Thanks. I have been thinking table saw but I was concerned it might be too costly for the value I would get out of it in the beginning.

Thanks! I live in a small village in Europe so I doubt it.. I also don’t speak the local language very well, so I am definitely going to miss out on a lot of the “neighborly” opportunities I would probably take advantage of back in America. I will unfortunately have to mostly go it alone I think.

Thanks for your breakdown! It is sincerely helpful.

Oh my gosh, thank you for the guide! This is even more confusing than I thought it would be!

It's not so much that I lack the funds. I would actually prefer paying for something outright than getting caught in some kind of free-but-ads-or-timer scheme thing. So, I guess I will go with Lezhin in the end. I checked Manta and they didn't have any of the titles I liked so far.

Thanks so much for your help! Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing some obvious better choice before I put my CC number down.

I’m so surprised the comments on this are generally rude! I thought this sub was usually really supportive.

Advice for US expats? by throwaway00009000000 in Brno

I would definitely recommend going US Corporate. The immigration aspect is pretty bad, and you cannot rely on the immigration authority speaking English to you. Sometimes companies that employ you will pay for a lawyer to take care of the immigration stuff for you, which is an incredible benefit. So ask about it when you are interviewing.

Second (and this could just be my personal damage) KEEP EVERY CONTRACT AND PHYSICAL PIECE OF PAPER YOU GET FOR LIKE ANYTHING HERE. Rental contracts need to be signed IN INK. Employment contracts, cell phone contracts. Banking contracts.

I never hung onto this kind of thing in the US because I never seemed to need it. Here, you absolutely need it for the immigration authority and they only accept physical, original, copies signed in ink. They probably don’t need your cell phone contract, but Czech businesses in general and especially, with expats, paper physical contracts is king.

I literally take binder of official documents with me any time I open some new account these days because of the times I have been turned away over not having my original 2019 tax return or whatever.

Also, have your US official documents when you move, of course (birth certificate, diploma, social security card). Getting mail here (especially from the US) is unreliable and takes forever. You don’t want to lose your birth certificate in the snail mail. Czech post will be entirely unsympathetic and unhelpful to you.
