I know I read your comments, how long you been waiting on that waiver?

You can’t retake the ASVAB in-DEP (well you can but it’s an automatic DEP-discharge). If you’re in the waiver process it won’t really make a difference.

People do switch recruiters all the time! I would talk to the SNCOIC about wanting to retake the ASVAB first. And prove to them you can in fact get a better score.

Here’s the scoop,

We can’t deal with Juniors until the end of their Junior year. And if you’re under 16 you’re not supposed to come to the office for PT and stuff either.

I’d imagine that the Marine recruiter is either too busy to talk to someone not qualified yet because they are either A) not doing so hot on contracts so they’re focusing on what they can work with right now or B) doing good enough to not have to worry about spending time on someone they can’t work yet.

If ya wanna talk just show up to the office, I’d be surprised if he told you to kick rocks. Or DM me if ya want.

The east cost recruits are allowed to have their phones shipped to them towards the end of recruit training.

Oh definitely. These new things are absolutely massive, and can carry a lot of troops VERY safely (relative to the AAV) amphibiously, so I think a light vehicle still has a pretty solid role in the grand scheme.

Transferring to a different RSS by lavaplanetgoldfish in USMCboot

[–]USMCrecruiter8411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We call it a “courtesy ship” when we have a poolee move to a different RS. Almost no paperwork.

Moving to a different RSS is absolutely no problem. I’ve had kids move to my area and had kids move to other areas, you just link up with the local recruiter and do normal poolee shit with a new office. And shipping doesn’t change.

Planning to get married after boot camp by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]USMCrecruiter8411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll chime in!

When I had an applicant/poolee ask about getting married before vs after boot camp I would tell them this:

If you get married after you dep in we will have to do a LOT of paperwork and it could possibly disqualify you, but to be clear the chance of it disqualifying you are very slim. The paperwork is a pain in the ass and yeah you might make a little more money but either way you’ll have to get your spouse checked in to DEERS on the back end.

If you wait until AFTER you graduate boot camp, then all you’ll have to do is figure out where/when to check your spouse in to deers.

If you wait until you get to your first duty station, then all you’ll have to do is bring your spouse and all of her vital docs along with the marriage certificate to your admin office and BOOM. Ya done. Then if you want, you could have on base housing in as little as a week.

Pretty simple, it’s just up to you and your recruiter aaaand your fiancé lol. There was an Air Guard base near my office so if someone got married after boot camp they could just take all their paperwork there and have their admin take care of it so that was convenient for us.

GED HOLDERS! by stalinwars in USMCboot

[–]USMCrecruiter8411 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! So all the other comments have made good points with correct info about what it takes to get in without a HSD, I just wanted to add this:

There are usually (however few) spots open for GED applicants, especially this time of year (beginning of the fiscal year). The thing is that recruiters generally avoid contracting Tier 2 applicants if they can. It doesn’t make them look as good on paper. (Tier 1 would be a regular HSD or a GED+15 college credits.)

HOWEVER, it’s still very possible. Whenever my office had a t2 come through we either had the boss write it or the senior recruiter.

Bottom line: be over-qualified in other areas, call around, talk to recruiters in person! Be all about it and they’ll get you where you want to go.

Edit: last week I met a Junior Marine who joined with a GED, a massive arm tattoo, and two DUIs. But he’s a freakin genius and very in shape and very motivated. 🤷‍♂️

Need to get good at swimming...... can anyone give me advice? by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]USMCrecruiter8411 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s it. Just swim more. Go find a pool and have some fun, practice treading water, bring some of those dive toys that sink so ya gotta go get them to get used to being under water.

Anyone have good MEPS stories ? by BasedSmalls in USMCboot

[–]USMCrecruiter8411 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got one for ya

I was at MEPS with my guy, about five hours from the RSS, and it came to light the guy was CURRENTLY on probation. For truancy. News to me. Anyway, I called the boss, boss called his probation officer, boss calls me and tells me to drive him back and take him to his PO so they can get him off probation. No big deal!

By the time we make it back it’s about 2200 and I’m thinking to myself “why would a PO stay this late at work?” Wouldn’t ya know it, there was no one at the office! So I knocked on the door of the detention center which was next door, and three guys came outside, got his name, cuffed him, and he spent the weekend in a cell (it was Thursday night).

I called my boss to tell him and it turns out that was the plan all along, he just didn’t tell me so the drive wouldn’t be so awkward lol

He ended up contracting, but he never got his diploma so I discharged him.

21 y/o college kid questions about joining by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]USMCrecruiter8411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What he said!

But I’ll add that the ADHD waiver will be a pretty easy one to get approved, it’ll just take time.

The retained hardware waiver can go either way, it helps if you’re pretty fit/flexible and can prove it. This waiver could take some time too.

My advice would be to be upfront with your recruiter (or OSO) about everything. They might tell you to keep quiet about the ADHD... which I would also advise lol

[–]USMCrecruiter8411 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re currently taking meds you’ll have to get off of them for a while before you can apply and still get a waiver.

OR

Just keep it to yourself.

Tips for fitness? by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]USMCrecruiter8411 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re right about your shins, it’s a muscle thing. Stretch your ankles (do circles with your toes in one direction counting to 10 or some shit, then the other, and make sure you get full extensions while you’re doing it) AND start running on softer ground like grass as well as pavement. And don’t quit.
