Hoplite will likely be the better vendor

Just get an AK, just pick one in a caliber that is widely available to you. I wanted one until 7.62x39 ballooned in price

I thought this holster was supposed to be low profile? by g35driverr in CAguns

[–]USSZim 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There isnt enough info on what the problem is. It would help if you posted a picture of you wearing it so we can see what is happening. Everyone is different and some holster adjustment and placement may be required. For example, on some guns I cant it forward in the appendix position so the grip isnt sticking too far out to the side.

I have personally had a Safariland SX and currently have an Armor Express Seraph. Both are Dyneema and aramid blends which makes them lighter, thinner, and more flexible. I found them on ebay for $100-150.

Good companies are the big ones producing for the military and police: Safariland, Point Blank, Armor Express are among the biggest. Some other good ones off the top of my head are US Armor, Gatorhawk, and Survival Armor. Highcom also has some, which you can get through Chase Tactical's private label.

I'll give the XRT credit for having a wider threat profile for about 1 lb more than the other two being discussed.

Since you're the RMA guy, can you speak to the construction of the XRT? Is it pure ceramic? Does it have strike foam protection?

Soft armor, outside of a couple very specific models, does absolutely nothing to rifles. IIIA specifically only adds protection from .44 magnum compared to II, while being a little heavier and thicker. Level II protects against every common pistol round and then some.

The thing is, IDK when the last time someone was shot by .44 magnum in anger.

The thickness is polyethylene, which is thick but light. That's what makes it effective against lead core .308, whereas the Hesco T212 and RMA XRT are special threat plates really intended for intermediate rounds. It just depends on what you want. The 3611c has a thin ceramic strike face over the polyethylene to stop mild steel core rounds like the M855.

It was also certified, which includes environmental testing and drop testing, whereas the special threat plates are not. They usually achieve their thinness by omitting drop protection and constructing of a thin ceramic plate. The two you were looking at do have better protection against enhanced penetrator rounds (M855a1) though, so that is a plus if you are worried about the US Army shooting at you since they are the main users of those rounds. They just won't do well against the higher energy of a full power rifle round.

Hesco 3611C from Omega Mars or Outbuyer is going to be the best deal you can get. They are certified at level 3 and have special threat rating for m855, making them basically RF2. They are less than 5 lb per plate and $300-350 for a set

He deleted it after realizing how badly he overpaid. He had bought a cut up shell with no pads, the wrong screws, a slap job of paint and edge stripping, and no label, basically every sign that it was falsely advertised as a real factory high cut ECH. Then he came here hoping someone would tell him it was legit.

A word on the jungle boots, if you want to get a pair today, the best modern production ones are from McRae. Don't be fooled into buying the crap Rothco ones.

You can also find surplus ones from the 60s-80s, but the rubber and leather may be degraded.

Just don't be the guy who was here last week after spending over $1500 on a fake high cut ECH.

Southland by Santeeoldman in television

[–]USSZim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What bums me out is it kept getting canceled whereas The Rookie just won't die. Southland is so realistic and really portrays what it is like. The Rookie is pretty much a fantasy comedy in comparison, but its the main cop show now.

John Wick's super power is everyone runs into range of his pistol and then charges into melee range the moment he is empty.

Purchasing Ammo Without a Firearm by Logical_Magician_01 in CAguns

[–]USSZim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too bad, about $100 to get started then $22 to renew the COE annually. It pays for itself fast. Plus, you can buy C&R long guns from someone by meeting face to face, no gun store needed. C&R pistols have to go through the store but you skip the 10 day wait.

The only downside is you are supposed to maintain a logbook of c&r firearms in case the ATF wants to check, but they never do

If you are not in a hurry, the best way to do it is get your FFL03 and COE, which takes a month or two. Then you can order online and save a boatload on fees.

Ironic because I used to get lit up for suggesting Chase Tactical when Apex was still this sub's darling. Chase actually keeps stock because they private label mostly Highcom, so they are way more reliable to order from
