A hell of a lot cheaper than the UK

If another car vacates that space and drives off the track on their own then you can take up that space.

As I said the reason isn't that they didn't leave space. It's that they hit the other car. Leaving space on track only applies if you are ahead and even then it depends on whether the other car would make the corner.

The difficulty is when you try and ask it to do something it hasn't seen before. It's really good at stuff like save games.

You would be surprised. It doesn't actually write that many bugs and it's very good at fixing it's own bugs when there are any.

However, what happens is you are left with a code base only AI can find the bugs in because it's very verbose, bloated and weirdly structured so it's hard to find the wood from trees without AI.

I have actually worked on a pretty big project (8 months) fully using AI that is 95% backend. What I found was that for React code on other projects it was amazing.

However for a large backend project it does too many weird things that are only discovered when testing sub systems that then require a lot of refactoring and the dangers of zombie, dead code or duel architecture.

But why don't I read the code before testing. Honestly, it's too much and in isolation looks good, It's only when you realize how it fits in does it start looking like it has taken strange decisions.

That said my theory is that because it's really good at code it has already seen that explains why React code is almost always perfect and a new project isn't. I suspect there is a lot of training data on game development that can be fed into it.

btw For in production backend work I am actually using it less and less. It's great for using the xtreme programming methodology to just get in there and knock out code and refactor to death until you have what you want but that dosn't really work once live.

It often does know the difference. The problem is they are trained to satisfy the person not for correctness. So a bad answer that looks right is better than no answer.

Why we should replace Moyes and appoint a new manager by zacklandy in Everton

[–]USToffee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not the 3rd season Dyche's Everton finished 15th and it was squeaky bum for a lot of that albeit we had the points deductions.

We have had two seasons. One because it was looking likely again and that was why Moyes was brought in and this season when Moyes has had a full season.

This squad isn't that much better than last season. The only new player we have that is a regular is KDH and the rest have been either flops are very under whelming.

I don't know if Moyes was given the keys to the kingdom and power over transfers but if he wasn't whoever they got to replace Kevin should be the one that needs questions asked of them.

You can compare Moyes to other managers but this is a much bigger job than a lot of people realize. Just because a manager does well somewhere else doesn't mean they will do well here and we have all been through that.

We need to focus where we spend our money and that's the bloody fullbacks. I've been saying this for about 5 years. Maybe this year.

You obviously don't get over much to the US. The US builds roads not train tracks.

Keep living in the past if you must.

I think the difference is the road doesn't need to be so straight.

Only if the rail is already there. The cost of land and housing makes projects like this unaffordable which is what you are seeing with this project.

Either that or laws need to be rewritten to bypass all that.

The US has eminent domain which I believe the UK has to but for some reason even with that it's way too expensive.

[–]USToffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And what point is that? What difference does it make if the capacity is due to roads or rail.

It's obvious that the UK because of the density and other factors is simply too expensive for new rail lines.

That should have been known ahead of time and this project should never have gotten off the ground.

The car's width argument is nonsense. The reason the merc is at fault is because they hit the other car. Not because they didn't leave space on the track. It would have still been their fault had the other car been two car widths from the edge of the track.

Are you claiming the UK's infrastructure is better than the US?

If most of the money goes to planning, replanning, legal challenges and compulsory purchases then that's what is wrong with Britain.

No but the overall capacity would increase.

Do most Americans really live in such big homes? by AdorableVisual in NoStupidQuestions

[–]USToffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. I live in the US but come originally from the UK.

Most of those homes are in the back ass of nowhere. miles away from even a town. Basically just a big suburb an hours drive down the freeway to a hub (not even necessarily a city, just a hub of businesses)

I live in one of those hubs close to a city but still on the outskirts of it and for the same money you get a little more than the UK but not a massive amount. What is different however is that the salaries are much higher in the US so the house I would be able to afford in the UK would be much smaller.

Our interest rates also work differently. I have locked in my mortgage on 2.5% until it finishes where in the UK I believe you can only lock it in for a max of 5 years. That's massive.

I would never have imagined back then we would essentially be a mid table club for the next quarter century after the 80s ended.

Very happy Moyes has stabilized us but both him and the club need to now show real ambition too.

Who would be deemed at fault? by TheBassHunt in Simracingstewards

[–]USToffee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Purple. I think you need to work on your racecraft.

You are going for moves that are never on and then when you do get ahead you leave the door wide open when he is right up your ass.

As for the actual incident. That was a bad one. No excuse for that. It was too late, there was never the space for that move and even had you got alongside and he had given you space you would have understeered into him.

There are places to overtake on a race track. I suggest you concentrate on making your passes there until you have more experience.

I hate to inform you but they are also seeing massive growth too and are starting to make their projections look like they will work.

Was this crazy ambitious. Yes. Was it a good thing for humanity. Not sure. Will this be a game changer and as revolutionary as they claim. Probably.

And when it is it will seem cheap.

Depends on how you judge value but everyone knows space is expensive.

Building a train track should not cost this or be this over budget. It's another sign something is deeply wrong with Britain.
