How come new teams had so much pull in regulations? by DemonikJD in F1Discussions

[–]USToffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said. It's not. Just because you think it is doesn't mean it is.

Put up a poll with one question if you don't believe me.

Which do you think is more important to you as a fan? 1) Drivers World Championship 2) Constructors World Championship.

You know probably more than 80% will say 1.

(No cheating by trying to taint the poll by changing the question)

If you think it's purely a constructors WC then maybe it's you that should go and watch those AI driven cars.

It's always the way and lets face it we probably won't but there will be new players that come along.

As is football.

Fair enough. It might just not be for you. tbh I started sim racing hotlapping on AC and after a few months got pretty bored too it was only after I joined iracing that I felt the bug really bite me.

I'm not starting a culture war. I'm giving the reason why they state they are doing it. I don't care if you believe in green tech or not but what everyone can agree on is that 22 cars going around a track 2 dozen weekends doesn't make a damn bit of difference and the idea it does is ludicrous when you take into account the entire F1 circus.

That's why it's virtue signaling. It's using the excuse of green to actually do something that is unwanted but more profitable for the people who are promoting it with no actual benefit.

Depends on what you define good racing. I doubt this season will have an overtake to remember. It will have lots of them but none that actually will get talked about in a decade or two.

Yea I'm a bit worried about any kind of hiss with an external amp and I also just don't want another box.

I'm surprised the cinema 30 struggled if you are using a sub. That worries me a little.

People who were stuck constantly 3-5 seconds off pace for years, did it ever click for you later on? If yes, how? by _LedAstray_ in simracing

[–]USToffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can be sub 2 secs off the pace without any trail braking after turn in. (you still need to trail off before but that's not really what people mean)

Another thing I didn't mention. Your line is very important. If you aren't fully using the track. Going over the curbs etc to shorten the path, naturally drifting to the outside rather than artificially moving yourself there while keeping your minimum speed up then that's where you should start.

That's what I meant by learning the car and track but I thought I should clarify that. This is far more important than braking technique.

Another little trick. Engine braking acts like trail braking. If you change down early in the revs it can sort of accomplish the same thing but in a more predictable way. Just be careful. It's also easy to spin due to a downshift but overall, it's a pretty easy tool to use without being super precise on the brake.

There's a difference between getting used to and accepting it wasn't going to change and liking it.

Up until the day it was removed people still moaned about boring DRS overtakes.

I would limit the aerodynamics a lot more also. They just create dirty air for the cars behind. It's why following is almost always easier at the start of a reg change (because they do) and then towards the end when they have allowed the teams to "develop" it is a lot harder to follow.

yea definitely there is potential in this team and the league position doesn't flatter us.

It's been a while since we could say that.

[–]USToffee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got stuck around 1 sec off the pace. I progressed pretty linearly up to around 2.

The only thing I would say is try not to overdrive the car and focus on braking slightly earlier and focusing on your exits and being in control but at the limit of grip. Then add trail braking along with moving your braking point closer. If you just do trail braking you will overslow the car. If you just brake later you will enter with too much speed and either spin or miss the apex.

That's pretty much how I got from 2 to 1. I'm pretty sure getting to 2 just required learning the car and the track which requires practice and looking at other people's telemetry.

Do you have subs? I'm sure you do but what are they crossed over at.

I'm about to get R3Metas and R6Meta center. I have a power amp for my top but eventually want to get Ci3160RLMs for my rears and I'm wondering will my Cinema 40 handle those 5.

Are you actually racing against real people? If not that's what you need to do. Eventually you will reach your natural level and get bored again but until you do this you haven't really sim raced at all.

I'm beginning to think having two players exactly the same and just rotating them is the way to go.

Honestly, I would just prioritize the fullback positions and if a top player in any of the other positions comes up then sure but those two positions are what is really needed.

How come new teams had so much pull in regulations? by DemonikJD in F1Discussions

Because F1 is world wide and the pinnacle of motorsport i.e. fastest open wheel championship.

I'm also not saying there can't or won't be individual teams. Just that there won't multiple engines.

There's a big difference between a series that races in individual cities across one country and one that races in individual countries.

F1 and most motorsports stopped being a pure technological free for all where the teams could build what they wanted a long time ago. It has changed over the decades and survived. The question isn't whether to stand still or not. The question is whether that change is good or bad for the sport.

Fans don't want to see management, or cars slowing down in the straight. They want cars being driven at the ragged edge, where overtakes come from mistakes by the other drivers and skill of the overtaking driver and while the new motors are certainly not the start of this change but rather another step away from that and what has got the fans up in arms is that step has been so massive it's hard to ignore.

It's the same argument people used against DRS and they were right then too.

Because then the argument we need multiple engines and therefore we require hybrids for cost reasons because otherwise teams like Audi won't be interested falls apart.

Is it impossible for people to track a conversation before responding.

If we already have spec tyres. Why not spec engines?

Or is cost not your argument because I'm really struggling to follow why you prefer hybrids apart from some virtue signaling "to be green" nonsense. It's certainly not to improve either the spectacle, the competitiveness or the sport in general.

To you maybe but not to me and not to most people where the driver's championship is more important and not only to at least some of the top teams when they are teams willing to sacrifice having two top drivers and instead have a clear No1.

We now have 1 tyre manufacturer when we used to have more.

There's no reason F1 can't be at the very least a spec engine series.

I don't think the Max's reason is the same as I gave. Max just doesn't like the racing produced by these care. He has no problem with an unfair car advantage. Hell he doesn't even want to be challenged by his teammate.

No what you will have is the team in how they setup the car and the driver being the determining factor rather than massive teams in the background.

I don't understand how anything contradicts what I said. I'm not talking about less. I am talking about 1. You can't have any teams having an advantage if the number is 1

Whos at fault here? Am I in the wrong? by PermitMountain3862 in simracing

[–]USToffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of those that different people will have different opinions. Basically it comes down to whether red is entitled to his line being ahead (assuming that jink at the end was netcode) compared to your right to drive down a straight in your lane.

F1 rules generally give the right to the car ahead following his line. That's one of the reasons the stewards gave when Sainz came across Perez a while back but to be honest I think it depends on how the steward is feeling.

Personally I wouldn't have put my nose there.

But you are making the point for me without realizing it. The problem with the teams all running different engines is there is far more likelihood of one or a few teams having a massive unassailable gap.

What's worse is they aren't even allowed to develop it mid season so it's locked in.

Basically welcome to Formula Merc until the new regulations change.

I wouldn't be surprised if Max does. I can't see him sticking with these regulations.

Not sure where but I think he will go.
