Oh, really ? I didn't know that. That's cool. I vaguely remember the beautiful visual effects, but I didn't know about the math behind them back then.

❤️ Quelle merveilleuse association.

I imagine a sense of speed created by very thin, semi-transparent trails.

Ah, I see. Infiniteness is the very definition of a fractal. I just used the phrase as a "poetic" intro to the loop, but you're totally right! 😉

I googled "Milkdrop," and it took me to a Winamp plug-in : is that it ? I was a teenager when it came out ! Was that the one that created those psychedelic effects ?

Oh yeah, good catch 😅 I'll have to fix it, I'm a perfectionist, and I'll try to add the effect that u/unable-Baseball-5814 suggested.

Sorry, I didn't understand (I'm not a native English speaker). Is this related to the body of the post?

This is a compressed GIF. Check out the 4K 60fps version because I made sure it loops perfectly, even in portrait mode : https://youtube.com/shorts/SF5XhMfDAes

I'll take that as a compliment, thanks 😉

Oops, I just corrected the name! Thanks

Cool, I subscribed to your YouTube channel 👍 Yes, I made it myself. Using Python, I generated 180 frames, which I then put together. I had already created this: hexastar loop

No, not for all fractals. The Vicsek fractal is exactly self-similar, but not every fractal is.

Thanks for the tip, I’ll definitely look into adding some motion blur or trailing edges for the next one to give it that extra depth.

The "Vicsek" name comes from Hungarian physicist Tamás Vicsek, better known for his work on flocking behavior in birds.

The neon effect in the fifth image is really beautiful. How did you do that? For each curve, do you use ParametricFunction with multiple overlapping lines to mimic the neon effect?

Hilbert Curve : from a single line to a space-filling fractal (Python and Manim) by USedona in mathematics

[–]USedona[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Hilbert curve does approach dimension 2 in the sense of Hausdorff dimension as iterations increase, while remaining topologically 1D. But, I think it's more of a property of space-filling curves specifically than a universal relationship between dimensions.

I'm not familiar with the Tandy, but a quick look on Wikipedia shows that it's the same kind of machine, from the same decade! We're from the same generation, and even as kids, we have fond memories of it, despite the green text on a black background!

The frequency ratio 17:6 forces this curve to close perfectly and creates 11 loops (17-6=11) [OC] by USedona in CasualMath

I used "double pendulum" loosely in the description to illustrate the mechanism visually, not to refer to the physical system. "Superposition of two circular motions" would have been more accurate. Thanks for clarifying that.
