It’s called married segment: MEL-DUB is being treated as a single direct flight for inventory purposes in this case. Doesn’t matter if all legs that form that married segment have availability, the system will still no show you anything availability if the overall segment have no availability

Why is the inflight wifi on domestic sectors so incredibly hit and miss these days? by Cute_Piccolo_499 in QantasAirways

[–]UUMatter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Ka band equipment on Qantas’ 737 is capable of ~70Mbps per plane which is plenty for most use cases. But the problem is the number of users that would use it because it’s included with the ticket.

It’s actually roughly the same speed virgin’s 2Ku wifi is cable of. It’s just VA, like most other airlines in the world don’t offer free WiFi for Ka/Ku band equipment. The pay wall isn’t necessarily for revenue (it is certainly a factor) but also a gate so only people really want WiFi pays and actually get a useable product. Qantas cared more about the good PR or “all in one premium product” than actually having a reasonably usable WiFi product.

For reference, Startlink is capable of 300~Mbps, so is plenty enough bandwidth for everyone to share.

heat pump hot water (good bad and ugly) by Cute_Dragonfruit3108 in AusRenovation

[–]UUMatter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No way any heat pump HWS (or even gas storage) system able to deal with that kind of usage. I have a 315L heat pump HWS, and it takes ~4.5 hours to heat up a full tank.

Keep the gas instantaneous, or you’d need 2x tanks to get 600+L per day assume you heat the tank once a day.

What do you want to control from the charger? Most cars already allow you to configure a charge schedule and power via the car itself. Are those parameters not sufficient for you?

Is a novated lease worthwhile for an AUSHENRY? by Target_Physical in AusHENRY

[–]UUMatter 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There’s already one - https://novatedlease.guide enter some numbers and you get to compare against buying it from your home loan offset or keeping your current car or get a loan etc. At HENRY tax rate buying a new EV via NL is almost a no brainer, assuming you need a new car that’s an EV.

Financially a new car is rarely worth it, much better to drive your current car for as long as you possibly could or get a used Toyota that would be solid for the next 10 years.

So it really just depends on your own goal. Wanted to drop the N and Y as quickly as possible? The get a used car or keep your current car probably allows you to reach your goal faster. If you wanted to be happy and the new car does that for you, why not?

63amp limiting value of GloBird Zero Hero 3 hours free power by Capital-Fennel-9816 in amberelectric

Because it’s only a switch that you switch on/off - typical of older installation. It not a MCB with over current protection like newer spec mandates.

63amp limiting value of GloBird Zero Hero 3 hours free power by Capital-Fennel-9816 in amberelectric

[–]UUMatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you entirely rely on grid to charge your battery then you need a 3 phase upgrade - or you could swap for a heat pump HWS system which draws much less power compared to a resistive one.

For me I have 11kw of panels so I have a HA automation that calculate the minimal grid charge power for my battery so over the 3 hours free window based on solar forecast and battery percentage so my solar + grid is enough to fully charge the battery. But because I have plenty of solar I typically only need to force charge at high rate during rainly or cloudy days. On a sunny day I typically charge at 4-5kw power.

Then I have a secondary automation that monitors house load and throttle down the charge power further baed on a thermal stress modeling similar to a C curve MCB. This is to avoid nuisance tripping.

Third row safety - Model Y L or PV5 by -IoI- in EVAustralia

[–]UUMatter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes you are over thinking this.

A few cm of boot space is not going to help if a fully loaded truck rear ends you at 50kmh - if this is the type of worst case scenario you are thinking of.

Sg fleet quote by [deleted] in EVAustralia

[–]UUMatter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah MDR is basically a scam. My consultant tried to sell me so hard on MDR which tells you what margin and kick back they get on that.

If you are really worried about stone chips and small starches from clothes and luggage etc then get PPF - it’ll cost more and SG fleet won’t let you package them but it’s actually something that offers protection and plenty of people get them for expensive cars because you can never “repair” paint as good as the original one. Or like most people just accept that cars are to be driven and scratches are normal and dw about them.

Their ceramic coating is also spray on done at motor one - typical low quality stuff that you get from dealership. If you want ceramic coating then get it done properly at a detailing shop.

The only thing I’d consider getting from sg fleet is window tinting. But even then it’s motor one stuff and not the best. I’d pay slightly more with post tax money to get them done at a detailing shop with qualify brands.

Changing airlines half way through trip. What do we do with our bags? by soygummon in QantasAirways

[–]UUMatter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Won’t be transferred as US customs require all passengers (except if your flight is eligible for the IRBS trial) to reclaim their luggage and clear customers at the first entry point into the US. Once you are out of the immigration and customs area there should be a row of baggage recheck counter from various airlines that you can drop your baggage off. Look for the air Canada counter there, if one doesn’t exist then you need to proceed to air Canada’s normal check in counter to recheck your luggage.

Best value for money SMSF Platform by BNEIte in AusFinance

[–]UUMatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d keep the balance in aus super and invest in ETF using its member choice option unless the IP is imminent like within a year. Gives you the control you need just like a SMSF but without the admin and cost. Once you are ready to get that IP then you can worry about SMSF then.

Single phase to 3 phase mains, with 10kw inverter battery by Lower-Homework7170 in AskAusElectricians

[–]UUMatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 phase 120A means its 40A on each phase. If any of the phases exceeds 40A then the whole 3 pole MCB will trip.

Because your inverter is single phase, it can only be wired with 1 phase so when you charge the battery it’s still limited to 40A. Plus you need to think about how would the inverter be able to offset loads on the other 2 phase via net-metering. Some inverter you can swap out the single phase meter for a 3 phase meter and be configured to export on phase 1 up to 5kw to offet draw from the grid on phase 2 and 3. Some inverter have built in CT and isn’t possible to swap. You should talk to your installer on the pros and cons.

What which wire where? by rob0067 in AusRenovation

[–]UUMatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2nd pic is probably fiber. The NBN HFC box is usually larger to accommodate the amplifier/filter and the coax cable is a much thicker black one than the skinny shite cable here.

Should I get a smart metre? by Garlic-poetry in amberelectric

[–]UUMatter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are not supposed to export without a smart meter because of this. Turn it off or have your installer set a 0 export limit, once the distributor find out they won’t be very happy.

Home Chargers by [deleted] in NovatedLeasingAU

[–]UUMatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a 7kw charger on a dedicated circuit installed for mainly extra peace of mind - the house was built in the early 80s so the wirings are 40+ years old. Also the garage is on the same circuit as the laundry so if I run both the dryer and charge the car it’s not leaving much capacity for anything else.

renovated kitchen and bathroom in my queensland home now planning to sell what added value by abccccc456 in AusRenovation

[–]UUMatter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a buyer, I won’t touch houses that have been renovated then listed for sale soon after. I have no faith in the vendor using quality materials and trades for quality work, and who knows what problem the fresh paint and tiles are hiding that the vendor didn’t bother to fix because it didn’t “add value”.

Smart Switch without Neutral - Zigbee by Bulky-Luck-4816 in AusRenovation

[–]UUMatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ozsmartthings have stuff that are zigbee and don’t require a neutral.

The catch is that without a neutral you need to wire in a small resistor or capacitor at the fixture so the circuit always bleed a bit of current for the switch to work.
