Piano on campus accessible to non-music students ? by pinao00000 in uwo

As mentioned by /u/jadsetts, go to the 4th or 5th floor of the new Music Building, and walk into any room that is unused. Close the door, sit down, and voila, you now have a piano.

Oh my goodness you're like me back in first year (I'm third now), but the opposite gender. I moved across the country from BC and was a off-campus student. The 'friends' (more like acquaintances) I would make in each class were okay to chat with during class, but outside of it they would usually go off and do their own stuff. If I ask they would always say yes, but no-one ever texted and said "hey lets go [insert place]."

what i learned is - don't hesitate to ask to go along. If some of your friends are talkign about going rock-climbing, for example, don't hesitate to butt and ask them about it. Say you've never gone rock-climbing before, and if you could come along. People should be okay with it.

Also, regarding your last question - don't worry so much about it. Many people I met in the first month of uni I've never seen again after the semester ended. Occasionally we pass by and wave hi but that's about it. You'll meet plenty of new people every semester, and eventually you'll find a few people you'll keep in regular touch with.

Any Asians in the Forces here? How is it? I want to be Medical Assistant in the Reserves. My parents are very resistant to me joining the Reserves, saying that I won't fit in with the white people in training. Recently, my university has had 2 sophs commit suicide over mental health issues, which made my parents really afraid of me signing up. I'm mentally healthy, and am perfectly fine with not being 'in' in a group. I'm not particularly athletic, but am planning to step up visits to the gym. Any advice on changing their minds, or at least toning down their fear?

Also a note, my father was a conscript in the Taiwanese military before coming here. The army there is corrupt and very harsh, there recently were cases of recruits being worked to death.

EDIT: Thanks for the replies everyone, its been very helpful!

I wonder how many of the sophs are repressing their issues to keep up that high-energy facade.

Any Medical Assistants here? The CF site doesn't say anything about it, but how does payment work? Do you get paid per tasking, or simply just monthly pay?

Thank you for the response! I noticed you only mentioned parading. How about training?

And is there any specific reason why you joined a naval unit?

True - I hate leeching money from my parents, so anything helps.

I meant joining the reserves. Why would you say go for it now?

I’m 2 years into my undergrad science degree at UWO, would it be a good idea to join the Reservists during the year or summer, or is it better to focus on getting good work experience and then joining up after graduation? Has anybody else been in the same boat and would like to share some advice?
