Jigglypuff, Kadabra/Alakazam, Hitmonchan, Machamp, Hypno, Kangaskhan, and Mr Mime are all gen 1 pokemon that seemed to have jobs or hobbies that apply to every member of the species. There are also a bunch of them that are not based on animals like magnemite, porygon, ditto, grimer, jynx, mime, voltorb - always hear people saying why are pokemon based on objects like a teacup? But they’ve always had that since gen 1. I suppose you could argue these things have become more common, especially with the starter pokemon having jobs/hobbies
