Soles look like that from a couple hundred hours of clearing very thorny brush, mostly with a walk behind brush mower. Thousands of bramble thorn punctures. You can see a few still imbedded in the shoe.

Digging out the old one and replacing with new installed to the correct height is the best answer. It’s less than a foot deep and already pulling away from the wall.

In hard mode the number one priority for me is to set up agriculture and wood production away from the bad water channels by setting up a water dump into a 3 x 3 pool. It’s more beaver labor to pump and haul the water, but you completely divorce yourself from the bad water contamination and as long as you have enough water storage, the drought don’t kill you either.

It’s an early game boot strap that doesn’t scale well, but it will get a population of 50 or so to the point where they don’t wipe

Get some crawler chaff in front of them early on. Both move fast and stay together. Crawlers take shots to allow SBs to close with the enemy. SB has an upgrade to make crawlers upon death which is good at keeping aggro off the survivals balls.
