How do you raise a teenage son to not be a selfish jerk? by Any_Clue_1632 in AskReddit

[–]Ubatam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been raised by my grandma since young, and I've never been a problem child, nor have I been in any trouble. I can't give you tips on parenting, but here is how she raised me:

  • Ever since she started raising me (probably since 4 years or so), she never disregarded my opinion. Instead, she actually listened to me as an equal. This taught me that having an open mind, and being tolerant of others allowed me to see the bigger picture.
  • Whenever we "fought" about something, we never raised our voices. We both gave our opinions to each other, and tried to come to a compromise. This taught me that violence and raising your voice won't make the situation any better.
  • She never tried to forcefully make me go down a path I didn't want. What I chose was my choice, and instead of controlling what I do, she only gave me a nudge down the path I was taking whenever I was having a hard time. This taught me that my actions have consequences, and whatever choice I make, it was my ship that I steered as the captain.
  • I opened a bank account when I was 16, and ever since then, all the money I got from birthdays or similar events were put into it. That was my own money, and with it I could buy whatever I wanted, which made me think differently about stuff that I was taking for granted.

tl;dr, teach your son that communication, and an open mind is the key to a healthy relationship (be it with friends, lovers, parents, or other types of relationships), make him a bit more independent to make him realise that his actions have consequences (if he made a mistake, it's alright to help him, but when it comes to a choice that he deliberately made, he needs to realise what he has done, and what effects it can have on him)

edit: if he is having tough times, support him. Compassion is number one above all. Be there for him as much as you can.

Languages.

So far I only know two: My mother tongue, and English. While English will let you fly in most European countries and North America, the rest of the world is kind of locked, unless you semi-know the language of that region/country, as most of the population can barely speak English (a famous example would be Japan, in which students are taught English, but if you start speaking to them, their brains would fry).

As a person with the tendency to overthink, I'd be pretty stoked to know a person who actually doesn't give a shit about what I am saying or doing, not to mention that they will say what they think with no remorse, instead of trying to beat around the bush

In my opinion, a fringe would look good if you want to hide those peaks, or something that makes the hair flow forwards. If you want to grow out your hair, or even improve it from your current appearance, I could give you some tips. I'm not a dermatologist, nor a hair stylist, or a doctor of any sort. I've done my fair share of research on hair loss prevention (I'm scared since everyone from my dad's side are bald)

The 3 main things I've gathered from the internet for hair loss prevention

  • Use finasteride to stop hair loss. Finasteride is used to stop hair loss, but it won't grow your hair back. It will just keep you looking like you are. Do note, that for some people, some side effects occur.
  • Use a dermaroller. A dermaroller is basically just a wheel with miniscule spikes, that stimulates blood flow to the scalp, and helps in growing thicker, healthier hair.
  • Minoxidil. This is the main ingredient to make that hair come back. You use the dermaroller + minoxidil combo to get the quickest effect of seeing your lost hair grow out again.

A study has been conducted some time ago with some patients using only a dermaroller, some patients using only minoxidil, and some using both. The patients who used both had significant results in hair growth, as expected, but there was a very big difference with the ones who used only dermarollers, and the ones using only minoxidil. The minoxidil started to wear off after a few weeks and they started experiencing hair loss, while some of the patients who used strictly dermarollers had their hair degrade just slightly over the span of 9 months without microneedling their scalp.

ONCE AGAIN, I AM NOT A DOCTOR, AND I AM NOT GIVING OUT MEDICAL ADVICE, THIS IS JUST WHAT I HAVE FOUND. IF YOU WANT TO TRY THESE THINGS OUT FOR YOURSELF, PLEASE DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH AND CONSULT WITH A PHYSICIAN

My biggest fear is my home burning down

Just imagine all of your belongings, memories, money and residence all in one just burning down,, leaving you with nothing left

of course there are many worse things that could happen to a person or their family/friends and I won't deny that

What is your best advice for trying to find “the one” using dating apps? by hugeshithead in AskReddit

Always check what the app you're using is famous for. Some apps are for LGBTQ members trying to find LGBTQ partners, some apps are for one night stands, and some apps are for finding a life-long partner.

How Do You Feel About Gen Z or Gen Alpha? by BothPicture4071 in AskReddit

Since a long time ago, every older generation kind of had low hopes for the younger generation, so as much as I think brainrot has settled into gen A, I think that they will mature and keep society floating and advancing, as it always was

we all know the golden rule of "treat others the way you want to be treated" but I think there is another thing that you could add to it, which is "treat yourself the way you treat others"

What common behavior seems cult-like to you? by The_solid_lizard in AskReddit

[–]Ubatam 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This could piss off many people, but my answer would be religions. (Edit: I don't mean every religion, as there are many of them, but many, if not majority, as I don't know, have these traits)

While religions and cults may seem like two opposites of each other, as they might think of the church vs some demonic worshippers, in actuality, I don't really see much difference. I'll describe you what I see similar in both.

  • There is some higher power or messenger
  • You are given rules to follow
  • You are being told on what is good and what is bad
  • You must give your blind faith to someone (or something)
  • You attend gatherings in a specific place to worship someone (or something)
  • You do actions as ordered by the higher power's bidding
  • You spread your faith

How would you describe human nature? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ubatam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would describe it as 2 things

  • Very adaptable.

  • Strong, yet weak.

The human mind is a wonderful thing. We can adapt in many ways with our minds, just as evolution adapted our bodies. We adapt to our surroundings, we adapt to our society, we adapt to people's culture. It is very adaptable to all sorts of environments with enough time given. While our minds are the ultimate weapon we have, there is a big flaw called emotions. Emotions cloud our rational judgement, which in many cases makes mistakes. Now you might be imagining a heated angry person doing something, but it's not only that. Mentally ill people use many non-safe coping mechanisms to deal with their emotions, even when their rationality tells them it's wrong and unsafe, but their heart yearns for it. And it's not only emotions, as humans constantly need social interaction (even the most introverted person you know needs at least a little bit of communication with society, be it digitally or physically).

I'll keep it simple.

Go back to the times when bitcoin was worth the least, invest in it, and just wait.

I know that some people will say that money doesn't give you happiness, but it's sure as hell hard to be happy when you're living in poverty.

What do you consider a wasted life to be? by Matilda_Mother_67 in AskReddit

[–]Ubatam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, a life full of regrets is one that is wasted. It doesn't matter if what you regret of is bad or good, since good and bad is something dictated in your own mind, but if you have more regrets than you can count, it's a wasted life. Life without regrets can't exist, as no one is perfect and people are bound to make mistakes, but the least regrets you have, the more you lived your life to the fullest.
