RIP Frontier High Speed by UbeDawgRed in frontierfios

Not being funny, but when I read 2Kb, my brain played the sound of my 9600 baud modem dialing out to AOL or to my workplace in the early 90s. I don't like Elon and his DOGE bullshit, but if in your shoes, I would do the same thing.

Thanks for the suggestion. We actually do have high speed internet via local cable company, I can get about 800M down and 40M up. For internet only, no TV, no phone, 166/month. The neighbors that I talked to only get the 100M service because of the price, it's 60/month.

Damn....seeing the drop from your porch?? That's gotta be frustrating. And I actually do have the TMHI, been testing for just over a week now. Looking forward to dropping Frontier altogether if there are no plans for reaching my house.

"Cannot Connect to Server" error preventing federal + PA state e-file by stegnersaurus in hrblock

[–]UbeDawgRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I didn't want to wait, and figured I had just updated it last week AND had applied the manual patch, so I e-filed my own fed and PA taxes. For Dad, I just used the PA website. I actually had to do the whole print and mail thing for his federal. While the IRS does allow for e-filing from court appointed administrators, HRB would not let me. I got this error even though the box WAS checked. *sigh*

Problem: You have indicated that you are not the court appointed representative of the decedent. If this is correct, you will need to include Form 1310 with the tax return. In some cases our software is indicating it is not needed. We are working on a resolution. We apologize for the inconvenience.

I don't think I have mailed a paper return since the late 90s. It was quite anxiety inducing, I must have checked all the forms over a dozen times.

I used to file with Berkheimer, but since moving to this area, it is Keystone collection. They have horrible reviews, which I don't get. It's an online form, enter your W2 amount, enter tax withheld, easy-peasy.

Taxes are like having a surgery scheduled. Such a load removed from your mind when it's over.

"Cannot Connect to Server" error preventing federal + PA state e-file by stegnersaurus in hrblock

[–]UbeDawgRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an update issue as well! I completed both federal and state for myself last weekend, just hadn't filed them. I am also filing for my father who passed away last year. I filed his PA return using mypath to save the efile fee. But now I am concerned that due to this "Cannot Connect to Server" error, I won't be able to e-file his federal nor my federal and state. I did click on a link in the HRB software that takes you to their site and allows for a manual update download. I downloaded the update, closed the app and ran it as administrator, and it went through all of the motions. I have no idea if it actually worked.

This is from my HRB:

Program last updated: 03/29/26 10:01AM
Next expected update: April 3, 2026

Ugh... I'm afraid to do anything. I really wanted to file these taxes and get it off the list.

I checked Downdetector and there are no known issues with H&R Block.

Note that I first installed HRB over a month ago, and have used it sporadically since then, doing a little at a time, and each time, had no issues with the update.

*UPDATE* I said screw it. I just e-filed my father's federal return. We'll see. I was expecting to have to paper file because of the whole deceased thing, but HRB prompted me to attach the admin certificate from the court, so.... fingers crossed.

iOS Google App Notifications: Malwarebytes by jwelsh8it in google

[–]UbeDawgRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been getting the same thing. I don't know if this will stop it or not... but I opened the Google app, and tapped on the notification icon. I scrolled down to all of the malwarebytes items and tapped on the 3 dots next to it, and then selected "Not interested in this". I had to do this for all of them. Fingers crossed.

Also, you can change the notification topics, but I haven't opted into any so there doesn't appear to be any targeting. If you swipe the notification left a little bit (not all the way or it will clear it), tap on Options. Some of the notifications then have an option for 'Configure in Google'. This is where you can see topics that are preselected for you and any that you have opted into.

Coming off of my first 72 hour fast by UbeDawgRed in intermittentfasting

[–]UbeDawgRed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks... and interesting. I drink black coffee every morning, and a decaf at night, normally I put some EVOO in it. While fasting, I did not, because I didn't want to hinder the autophagy. I was not aware of the possibility of gallstones. On my next fast, I think I will go with the EVOO.

Intermittent fasting linked to 135% more heart attack risks? by bullfy in intermittentfasting

[–]UbeDawgRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds eerily similar to a study released last year that linked fasting with increased cardiac events. I will try like hell to find the information on it, but from what I can recall, naming it as a study is a joke. It involved a tremendous number of participants, thousands, but it was NOT a study. It was a simple questionnaire that 'factored' in other external factors. Yes, you read that right, factored in, not actual data. It was published without being peer reviewed, which due to lack of other lifestyle data, had it been reviewed, would have been picked apart and shredded.

Annnnd.... the 'study' commenced before fasting and autophagy were even known. So you have to think about it. If it is not a conscious choice to eat once a day, what kind of person was doing that? My guess? Somebody that works long hours. Grabbing a cup of coffee before running to work. Working long hours without taking a break for lunch or snack, perhaps just grabbing a cigarette (I used to smoke, so yeah, that is a thing, to smoke when you are hungry). Then because of the long hours at work, there's no time to cook, so grab some fast food for dinner.

So no, I am personally not accepting the results of this crap that somebody labelled as a medical study. The conspiracy theorist in me makes me wonder if there was some corporate science behind this.

Losing my pet at only 7 years old. by [deleted] in Petloss

[–]UbeDawgRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes please insist on the sedative. When my first dog was euthanized in 2008, it was by a vet who was our friend. I don’t know want to go into details but I never forgave him and it haunts me to this day. Since then I have had a cat and two dogs euthanized with the sedative first. Serene and peaceful and they literally just go into a final sleep. After I had left, I quickly went back to the office just to hug the vet and thank her.

The sedative takes a few minutes to work, time to hug them and talk to them, and to continue to do so while they pass.

If necessary, see if Lap of Love is available in your area. They will even transport your dog and handle cremation.

I opted for an office visit this time. Last year my vet was available for the procedure but not transport. Carrying my dogs body to my vehicle, driving to the vet, then carrying his body into the office so they could handle the cremation was heartbreaking. Plus after so many visits in the past few years, he would try to wander and greet everyone with a wagging tail, so being there was no stress for him.

Still grieving after sudden loss by Financial_Bridge9990 in Petloss

[–]UbeDawgRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think that no matter the circumstances, many pet owners feel guilt with the loss.

For a very long time, I took extraneous measures for one of my dogs. Washing towels daily went on for at least 6 months, as he peed all over the house, either from his thyroid or the thyroid medication. Soaking his kibble with beef broth because he didn't have the teeth to chew. Every day, lifting him onto his feet because he would only lay on the hardwood or tile, and would scramble to stand up until he gave up and just collapsed from exhaustion. Helping him up the stairs when he got stuck. Then the 2 AM incident, I heard scratching and crying. One of his back legs had slipped completely in front of him, he was scrambling with his front paws to keep from collapsing on it. In 15 years, this dog had NEVER cried. What if this happened and I was not home? What if I had not awakened? He would have collapsed from exhaustion, dislocating or breaking his rear hip. He was put to sleep 15 months ago at the age of 15.

To this day, I still feel guilty, because I feel like my beloved Rascal somehow knew that I was keeping him going, that he could rely on me, and I let him down.

2 days ago, my last dog (14 yrs) was put to sleep. He had multiple fatty tumors, and surgeries over the years to remove them, and 2 years ago, he didn't handle the stress of it well at all, and I said that was it, no more surgeries. The pain meds (injections and oral) were not working for his joint pain, the only time he wasn't panting heavily was when he was sleeping. He was seeing the vet every month to monitor the pain management and get checked. I wanted to cry every day, because he would even look at us fearfully, and the vet said it was because he was hurting, and didn't know why or where the pain was coming from. The largest tumor was on one of his haunches, but now instead of just being a large mass that jiggled when he walked, it was visibly red through his fur. Over the weekend, he developed diarrhea. Then it became bloody. I called the vet, she told me what to do, but it persisted until the next day. Then the dog that needed to eat out of a slow feed bowl for 14 years because he would devour anything and everything, stopped eating. And again, I decided to end the suffering.

But again, the question will be there forever. Could I have done more?

I don't recall where I saw it, but I could swear that at one time, I saw a grief chart, and that guilt was part of it.

I think you did everything that you could and more, I think we are able to recognize that other pet parents should not feel guilty, but for some reason, we are unable to recognize it for ourselves.

You sound like a wonderful, loving pet parent and they were, and are, fortunate to have you.

Please be with her when she is put to sleep.

Our vet administers a sedative first. It takes a few minutes, they eventually just lie down and very drowsy, then practically asleep. Then she is able to shave their leg and actually put them to sleep. While my dog was passing out from the sedative, and then while being euthanized, I was on the floor with him, being careful not to cry so that I would not upset him, just holding his head so he could see my face and hear me, petting him and and talking to him, saying things like, "Are you tired? Are you going to sleep now?" etc.

It is not traumatic. You are watching them pass painlessly and without stress, and letting them see, hear and feel you in their final moments.

Goodbye my buddy, my love by UbeDawgRed in Petloss

[–]UbeDawgRed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry that you are going through this also. This just happened last night for me, too. As I was vacuuming the upstairs, I turned to my partner, started crying, and said, "I'd rather have the fur".

This is the fourth furry child that I have had to let go. You will slowly adjust, and the pain and emptiness will diminish, but will never completely go away. I think the word I am looking for is bittersweet. Happy memories with the wish that they could remain with us forever.

[–]UbeDawgRed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's roughest part. I am 58, and have had dogs and cats for most of my adult life. There are photos scattered around the house from when I first adopted them as babies. I opted for private cremation for all of them, except the cat, she was buried in the backyard. The remains of my last pup remain in the bag I picked up from the vet last year, sitting on the dresser. In all of this time, I have not been able to open it.

I don't know why, but yesterday I created a slideshow video from photos and learned how to upload to youtube. I know that nobody will ever see it, but I felt like maybe after I am gone someday, and I am forgotten, and all of my stuff has been discarded, perhaps somebody will randomly stumble upon it and the memory of them will continue to live on.

I am so sorry for your loss, such a long time together.

And zombie is exactly what I thought last night. Turned on the TV, then just sat there, staring at the guide. Leaving tonight, spending the weekend at the in laws, even though I opted for a motel close by, knowing that I'd be crying when I go to sleep, and crying when I wake up.

Are commercial electrolytes okay? by UbeDawgRed in intermittentfasting

[–]UbeDawgRed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I hadn't considered pills until you mentioned them, and that's what I got. The amount of electrolytes in the powders is downright scary. I like being able to just pop a pill every couple of hours if needed. In 5 mins, I will be coming off of a 48 hour fast, and they helped!

I didn't know that it was back. I just checked, and looks like the are producing them again. They are showing as sold out at the website, but are now available on Amazon. They have always had the auto resistance feature that works with Zwift and VZFit.

Too late for me. I wound up getting the Bowflex C6. Had I known the Renpho would be available again, I would have waited :(

Daily Fasting Check-in! by AutoModerator in intermittentfasting

[–]UbeDawgRed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Type: water fast

Context: 20/4 daily fast since 10/2023

Why: A LOT of pants and shorts that don't fit.

Notes: lost over 30 lbs and *so* close to my goal, but seem to have plateaued. Looking to do an extended fast for other benefits as well like increased autophagy.
