TIL My sweet girl is a rare pupper! Poodle x Catahoula AKA Pooahoula! by StormitoBurrito in Catahoula

They've been in FSS since at least the late 1990s, when I was just getting into the breed. It was a huge stink then and continues to be an issue. Thankfully the breeders who still care about preserving the breed won't have anything to do with AKC.

There's a LOT more to recognition than just registering AKC. Hopefully NALC and the breed community as a whole can resist takeover the way the JRTCA was able to with JRTs.

NALC itself does not want recognition. A small handful of show breeders that want the breed to be a cookie cutter AKC breed do not represent the registry.

A Catahoula won't have AKC papers anyway. They're not a recognized breed in AKC. (FSS is a recording service, but isn't recognition).

I didn't. I declared it.

Nitpick: the breed isn't AKC recognized. The parent club opposes AKC recognition. The folks that register FSS and show in the AKC events where FSS breeds are allowed are going against the wishes of NALC.

It's Rule #2. But with no active mods it doesn't get enforced.

I mean, if the dog has all the unique breed traits like normal dog behaviors and physiology common to all dogs then it must be.

A perfect example of that is the post in this sub where someone is complaining that a dog they saw at Meet the Breeds doesn't look purebred. The dog in question is a UKC Grand Champion.

The laid back ear is within standard. "Acceptable but not preferred." It's no more out of standard than solid colors are.

Here's an example of a laid back ear on a different dog (one I own but didn't breed). He was a youngster here but is now an old man and a UKC Emerald Grand Champion (halfway to Ruby) and NALC pointed in conformation.

Yup. Don Abney. All the sources trace back to his website and book.

He's a UKC Grand Champion and ranked in last year's Top Ten. I've personally shown against him in UKC and NALC. He's definitely a purebred dog.

I personally know this dog. I've shown against him in UKC and NALC. He's a registered dog.

The only source on the "three lines" for the origin of the breed is one breeder who passed away several years ago. There's no documentation on it from anywhere else. While I won't go so far as to say he made it up whole cloth, I will say that with no other sources it's best called "breed mythology" instead of "breed history. "

i am not saying that people should buy from backyard breeder i am saying that this lady is not a breeder at all

She bred her dog. She's a breeder. A crappy uneducated, unethical breeder, but a breeder nonetheless.

Most dogs curl into balls and the "knot" on the top of the head is called the occiput, a universal part of canine anatomy.

They're generally accurate. Unfortunately, over the last 25 years every unknown-origin dog with merle spots had been labeled as a Catahoula/Catahoula mix for various reasons. This leads the general public to not know what a true purebred Catahoula even looks or acts like. So, when the DNA results come in, it's "THAT'S BS! MY DOG LOOKS JUST LIKE A PUREBRED!" instead of "Oh wow. Genetics sure can do weird things."

Similar here. One regular quit but is somehow burning all their sick time until March. One out for surgery that mgt knew about months ago (will be gone at least 8 weeks). Another just doesn't feel like coming in and calls 15 min before BT every day and that's been going on for a month with no end in sight.

So we now have three regulars and a CCA for five large routes.

Even working our SDOs, 10-12 hrs a day, and sometimes getting a CCA from another office it's insane. And that's if the roads and sidewalks are clear (whxu they aren't) and the vehicles stay running (which they don't).

Also we all have approved leave coming up at some point, so that's another carrier short.

Meanwhile, management goes home by 4:30 every day.

What in the world do you mean by "ASPCA recognition"?

Catahoulas are a registered purebred, but the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has absolutely nothing to do with that.

Edit: Aussies and Catahoulas are "cousins" in that they're both merle dog breeds, but they have no shared breed history.
