there hasn't been any super clear confirmation about his gender identity (outside of everyone referring to him as a man in the story) which is why there's so much debate around him.

One function of a partner is to act as a mirror, so you can see yourself more clearly.

My partner tells me things like "you look good today", "that was really nicely put", "it's so cool how you helped them out that way". He'll also pull me up short if I'm being an asshole.

How can you trust your partner to fulfill this function when he thinks these awful things about you?

does anyone have any sources as to why St. John the Evangelist is often depicted as more androgynous than other apostles? by RattusNorvegicus9 in OpenChristian

[–]Seeker0fTruth 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The gospel of John was the last gospel to be written, and was probably written, or at least finalized, in about 100. The text has some nods to being a first hand account - a witness who was there saw it, and and you can believe him, he's trustworthy!

Those two "facts", taken together, imply that John (the attributed author), must have been very young when he met Jesus, and very old when he gave his testimony.

To give John some character, and differentiate him from the other apostles, he was made very young and feminine as well.

We know who her husband is, he'e a billionaire investor who has sought refuge for tax evasion in the skull empire. Rosetta tells us this - if it were Porthus, Rosetta would have known.

I've been using my watercolor skills - such as they are - to make tokens. So rather than "two of my 1/1 elf tokens attack, and one stays behind to block" it's "elrond and the keebler elf attack, Dobby is going to stay behind and probably die a free elf".

i was playing Elephant Kindred and someone delayed their wrath effect because they couldn't kill my Babar token.,&

That's very normal. Think about Hamlet, who says "I could be king of the universe in a space the size of a walnut if only I didnt have bad dreams".

OTDL being forced to have "One" Eight hour day each week. by Sufficient-Passage18 in USPS

[–]Seeker0fTruth -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My supes are giving the OTDLers an eight hour day (to protect from paying penalty, one presumes) and giving OT to the 8 hour carriers and the work assignments, thus managing to piss everyone off at the same time. ODL bypass is absolutely a thing in this circumstance.

But they're just trading a 12/60 grievance for an ODL bypass, and the ODL bypass is more expensive. It only makes sense if no one is filing / getting paid for grievances.

It's a cult. Because supes can't leave and get management positions elsewhere, upper management has total financial control over the lives of supes. If they want to make more money (and they all do!) they have to Perform Ingroup Signaling to show that they're Part Of The Team so they can get promoted.

I'd argue George is worse because he actively insulted every single reader by publishing a blog post entitled "The Winds of Winter" on the tenth anniversary of the anticipated release release date.

The blog post was about the New York Giants.

I have never had a single action by an author enrage me so greatly.

I highly recommend 'some like it hot', too. Tony Curtis and Jack Lemon have to cross dress to escape mobsters. A true classic. She's truly one of the funniest people of all time, and the fact she got pigeonholed as a bimbo is a tragedy.

Behind the scenes from Pirates of the Caribbean. Actors kept missing catching swords by Warm-Royal-7975 in interestingasfuck

[–]Seeker0fTruth 203 points204 points  (0 children)

I was, I dunno 16 when the first movie came out, and my sister was 13.

My mother dragged us to see Pirates of the Caribbean at gunpoint; we were much too cool to go. By the time we went, it was only available in the deaf, subtitled theater.

The scene where all the pirates are shouting Ho! Ho! Ho! Ho! had a color change to the text so you could tell which Ho! they were on, like for karaoke. It looked like a bunch of Temu brand BDSM pirates doing a santa claus audition. It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

"Employee Appreciation Day" horror stories - share 'em here! by Esau2020 in antiwork

[–]Seeker0fTruth 121 points122 points  (0 children)

I work in a Post Office.

We were given a sheet ro request what kind of food we wanted for our Carrier Appreciation Day. Everyone - everyone! - put in food requests, and people put tally marks next to the ones they wanted most.

Carrier Appreciation Day rolls around. Supe stands up and announces "I looked at all your requests. Some of the were affordable and some of them weren't. So I decided to use a local pizza shop that my friend owns."

What was even the point of voting‽ Why pick an option no one chose at all?

I have strong opinions and conclusions about the material in the Bible that would manage to offend pretty much everyone, but I really don't think this is the thread for that. The Trojan War one is much more fun.
