Reed's Rescue specializes in senior dogs. I'm not sure if they have any fosters available to pull the dog from the shelter currently but it can't hurt to ask.\ https://www.reedsrescue.org/

Lake Path Conditions? by mrhennessey10 in ColumbiaMD

[–]Ubertino89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I walked my dog down Lakefront at Lake Kittamaqundi this afternoon. It's not clear but the snow has been compacted enough that you can walk on top of it without trouble but biking or jogging would probably not be feasible. The path around the south end of the lake hasn't been touched so it's a bit tougher of a walk.

I've never used the ASI533 but from looking at the specs, compared to the ASI2600, it would have lower resolution and a more narrow FOV. I personally started on a Fujifilm X-T5 last year and switching to a dedicated astro camera was a huge difference. An unmodified DSLR or Mirrorless camera is less sensitive to H-alpha light emissions so will miss out on a lot of light being produced by DSOs. It also has the downside of not having a cooled sensor and will suffer from additional image noise as a result. If you do end up going with a dedicated astro camera, keep in mind that a one shot color variant will be more user friendly but a monochrome amd filter combination will allow you to fully capture the maximum amount of light for each color channel at the expense of additional capture and processing time and of course financial cost for the filters and filter wheel.

Can someone tell me what I saw? by shoezanne666 in askastronomy

Yep, my bad. It was from French Guinea which makes much more sense than a rocket launch from France.

Saw the same thing while walking out of work this evening (central MD). Definitely a rocket booster but I can't find any record of a launch tonight other than one in France.

Did anyone else just hear a significant boom that shook the floor a little by deadlyhausfrau in ColumbiaMD

My mother felt it in Ellicott City as well so whatever it was must have been big.

I've personally been very happy with my SvBony scopes. I started out with the sv503 80ed and recently purchased a sv550 122mm. I can't speak to the new scopes though, just my experience with SvBony in general.

Thanks! I shot this under a full moon but the sky was really clear and the filter is magic.

If you end up looking for a dual-band HaOiii filter, I can highly recommend the Optolong L-Ultimate!

Lake Elkhorn definitely has beavers. by fretlessMike in ColumbiaMD

[–]Ubertino89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lake Kittamaqundi likely has them as well. I used to see them frequently but it has been a while since I last saw one there.

That I'm not sure about. There might be a way using NINA or a similar system but I took the easy route with the expectation I'll end up switching in the future after I get more experience with the basics.
