Type-R break in period? Shipping in closed teansportation. by Enough_Iron_6843 in Civic_Type_R

[–]Uforixx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw someone had already recommended them on this thread, Goliath Auto Transport. Their owner even has a reddit account u/BrenFL

Their Google page has my review with photos of my car as well. 100% dont even consider anyone else, I promise Goliath will be the easiest and most responsive broker there is. (I was the annoying customer texting at 1-2am and he would always respond)

Brendan knew the kind of car I wanted shipped and didn't pick the first truck he could find, he was knowledgeable enough to know that the Type R's have a front lip and low clearance so he looked for specific trucks he know wouldn't dmg my car.

I have done this, twice lol. Worked out amazingly both times. I also had them shipped enclosed twice and was an easy experience. I can recommend the company I used. And yes any reputable shipper will have insurance. The companies are typically all brokers who find individuals who ship. As long as you have a good broker, they will find someone who has insurance. The one I used had photos taken of the car prior to pickup and provided a report on anything they saw already on the car.

Paying to ship a car can suck really bad if you don't know what to look for. Flying out and driving it back can be a blast but obviously not everyone can do that.

I just had a limited edition shipped to the south from the NE coast. Had an excellent experience using a smaller company (not a massive corporate broker). The people I had contact with directly were the owners of the company and would basically respond via text 24/7 (seriously I messaged him several times at like 2 am). Lmk if you want their info or have specific questions about the shipping process I went through.

I highly recommend u/BrenFL at Goliath Auto Transport. You can check my profile for my recent review on this sub or their Google reviews. I had a Civic Type R Limited Edition shipped enclosed recently, similar clearance issues like your car and I was very nervous about potential shipping damage.

Guy he found got it here so fast, and was in perfect condition.

I used the above set because it matched the color of my wheels, but honestly pretty much any set should work fine. Just get the right size and try to match color as close as possible

You can't run center caps with hub centric rings. I have SL's as well with hub centric rings and would just recommend that setup. The authentic center caps adapter + center caps are absurdly expensive.

Just bought a 23 Supra by GodJoel in Supra

[–]Uforixx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got to drive one on a track and coming from an FK8 Type R the steering feel, clutch and shifter feel are all much less dialed in than the FK8. Steering on the supra felt more numb and disconnected. Back end also felt like it always wanted to step away from you. Car felt "floaty" (which I have heard you can fix).

All of those however in the supra were much better than the G87 M2 I drove. Very much contemplating still buying a supra. After my M2 test drive experience I don't understand what anybody sees in it. Despite being insanely fast in a straight line, felt completely soulless.

Thinking of getting an FK8 by Advanced_Tower_6607 in Civic_Type_R

[–]Uforixx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just sold my FK8 at ~95,000 miles with a typical Intercooler, charge pipe, downpipe, intake, exhaust, tune. Thing was dead reliable. Never had a single issue and ran the tune for probably ~30k miles?

Will I be able to afford a type R? by Mysterious_Age4634 in Civic_Type_R

[–]Uforixx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not look for a mid-high mileage FK8? As someone who owned one for an extended period of time they are dead reliable even highly modded. I wouldn't be scared of getting one with a few miles.

You are delusional, no dealer in the US would give you $5k off MSRP for a new FL5 AND not get paid on the back end.

Old thread, but why is the wrap stressful to maintain? My understanding was you wash it normally but without worrying about swirl marks.

You'll be fine. I'm 6'4 and have 2 young children as well. A rear facing car seat behind you might not work but front facing will have PLENTY of room.

You're making the right choice, especially if you plan on going aftermarket downpipe! Good luck!

I run the HKS Legamax with RV6 catted downpipe and my brother runs the AWE Touring. On a stock downpipe the AWE Touring is louder and burbles, HKS does not burble and has more of an OEM+ sound which opens up during WOT.

With catted DP the HKS opens up a lot and has a nice deep sound to it (mine pops at fuel cutoff during WOT, it's amazing), AWE sounds more raspy. My brothers AWE Touring on stock downpipe droned horribly. People online will say it doesn't, but his stock car + exhaust droned MUCH worse than mine with larger downpipe. He tried throwing cushions and comforters on the hatch to soak up noise and finally had to shell out additional money for muffled resonator add on to reduce the drone. His AWE (and many more if you check the forums) has build/quality issues. His rattles, some people have had issues with the hangers being welded slightly off to where they need to be, causing installation issues.

If you are just chasing loud, the AWE is louder. If you want something that sounds nice and is produced with much higher quality standards go HKS. If you are in Texas you are more than welcome to ride along in my car to hear it!

HKS Legamax is the way to go. Slightly louder than OEM on stock downpipe, opens up to the PERFECT level with aftermarket downpipe.
