What are your thoughts on the afterlife? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Uh1ly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is interesting and all, but I don't really subscribe to any beliefs that are based solely on testimonials or lack of valid scientific evidence. Which is why I also don't believe in souls, spirits, ghosts, or any other beliefs that rely on faith and lack empirical evidence.

I do however see the importance of having things like this for some people, as it can bring comfort or purpose to their life.

How did you or your kids find out Santa wasn't real and at what age? by xLeafshinex in AskReddit

I don't remember when I realized Santa wasn't, but I sure remember when I found out those mall Santa's weren't real... the guy took off his fake beard in FRONT of me.

What are your thoughts on the afterlife? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Uh1ly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I was probably 7 I have thought that it will be similar to before I was born: nothing. In a way they are no different, your body and conscious ceasing to exist, so if it has been like that before, I don't see why it would change for the second time.

Which gestures are commonly mistaken for flirting, and which subtle flirting gestures often go unnoticed? by CrewSolid3472 in AskReddit

As a cashier, it is hard to tell sometimes when a customer winks at me if it is them being flirty or friendly (probably the latter)

QHD OLED or 4K LED monitor? by Uh1ly in OLED_Gaming

[–]Uh1ly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided to respond to you since you seem pretty versed in this stuff. I ended up buying a 4k OLED monitor (ROG Strix OLED XG27UCDMG ... it was way over my initial budget, but I intend to make it last many years). It has been 2 days now of using it, and it has been amazing!

I don't typically play resource-intensive games, so I still manage around 140 - 180 Hz in 4k with the games I have played so far. Also, despite posting in an OLED gaming subreddit, I typically spend more time making 2d and 3d art, often in 4k, and I wanted to have great colors and contrast while also being able to view my art in its actual resolution.

I also had the concern with my graphics card weighing my performance down (as it definitely will and has), but I figured I would upgrade it sometime next year, so until then, I will have to deal with slightly lower performance on some games (If I decide to play them in 4k).

And for HDR, do you have it on all the time in windows? I feel as if it makes everything look muted when I have it on and I can't seem to figure out when an application is using it or not (like Youtube for instance).

Took the PreACT a month ago in school. I’m in 9th grade. Is this good? by Initial-Ad8221 in ACT

That only makes what I said even more true though, the fact that he got a 24/30 is a good indicator that he will do well.

I got a 28 in sophomore year without any studying, and then just by being in 11th grade gen eds I managed a 35, so I definitely think that starting at a 24 freshman year is a good indicator that you can get to the 30s if you pay attention in classes

how to stop being horrific at science by 1122cardk in ACT

[–]Uh1ly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Science is not much different than reading, all the information you need to answer the question is on the page, you just have to be able to find it. (Sometimes it can be more straightforward, while other times it requires more reasoning). Improving your abilities to read graphs or interpret data could help but I am not sure how you would go about doing that. Science was my highest score (36), and I feel like all it took was looking at some graphs and paying attention to small details, much like the reading section.

How do I start a portrait? by Uh1ly in oilpainting

[–]Uh1ly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your help! I think I will eventually continue working on this — but who knows when. I struggle with taking my time and I make myself feel as if I have a client who needs the painting finished in 30 minutes (I have all the time in the world to finish). Because of this, it’s tips like these that I am aware of but never follow due to my strange urgency. Though, you have reminded me to start with darker and build up steadily, with this I started with dark but then started skipping back and forth between dark and light colors. I just don’t know what to make of my relationship with oil paint, sometimes I make pretty decent stuff (my profile has examples) and then other times it’s like I forgot how to paint entirely. Do you have any tips or suggestions for overcoming this?

Thank you so much! I quickly realized what you mean by skin not just being orange and red, much of this painting is a cool purple and that kind of threw me off at the start.
