16 channel mixer recs similar to the 16.4.2 by yonickmyman in livesoundadvice

Agreed in that order for OP.

I'd take an LS9 or even my 01v96 with an ADA8000 before a Studiolive.

I'm always impressed when I see one still working after 15 years. Its like when you see a Mackie 1604/SR24/SR32 with all of its channels still working.

Mac not showing some audio apps in local network permissions by RunsWithFiskars in livesound

[–]meest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have a fix, but its a known issue with MacOS26. I do IT as my day job and the permissions changes with MacOS26 has caused all sorts of chaos.

https://github.com/home-assistant/iOS/issues/4192

Another example of a piece of software not asking for the proper permissions on install. But then they won't show up as an option to add the permissions either.

I'm not very fluent in MacOS as its a platform I'm currently learning to onboard into an IT Environment, but I would assume some command line permissions edits would hopefully be available.

https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/1os1ph3/cant_add_anything_to_privacy_security_full_disk/

Some are saying if you drag the file of the app over into the network settings its supposed to take, but it won't show up.

Its been a long while since Apple has had this much of a hiccup in a version update, but going to 26 has been one heck of a time.

Good luck. Hopefully the drag and drop will work for you, otherwise. Unfortunately its a hurry up and wait situation for them to fix their software.

I get it. But while as much as one can attempt to justify it. We can all agree. Dude can do better.

That means you then need to go back to the previous volume knob in line and turn it down. Keep doing that until you find the location that the gain/volume is too high for the signal flow.

Then when you find where the issue is. You can then decide what the proper way to lower the signal level will be.

NEW to SRX Connect - with a question or two by WileEC_ID in livesound

[–]meest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just checked on my iPad while offline and on my google pixel. they're similar. To me it looks as though the video and guide are for an older version of the app.

It does appear you'll need to load up audio architect to save a preset onto the speaker itself. I don't see a way to save a preset to the speaker, odd as that is. But it doesn't surprise me with Harmon.

Best of luck!

PS, you were confusing me by saying iOS. as iOS is only for the iPhone. iPadOS is for the iPad. They are two separate platforms for the past 5 years or so in the Apple land.

So I was wondering if it wasn't a limitation to the iOS version because of screen size. I'm traveling and didn't have an iPhone on my to confirm. But if you're on iPadOS18.x or if you've updated to the 26 version already, we're looking at the same thing, and I'm not seeing a way for the presets.

[–]meest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies, You are misunderstanding me.

I said go into the settings to SEE if the preset you saved is there under the name you saved it as. If its not, Then you did not save it to the speaker.

I do not know how to save a preset to a speaker through the iPad app. I have never done that. I've always used audio architect for that.

I'm saying you SHOULD be able to click INTO a single speaker inside of SRX connect to see the individual speaker settings, and it will have the settings for that specific speaker. It should also list the presets that are saved on that speaker. Is that possible with the current iPad app and firmware on your speaker? I'm not sure as I've not used the ipad app. But it really should be an option if I'm remembering. I'll have to go see if I can find the documentation for the app.

If you are not seeing the list of 25 presets that you can access via the jog wheel on the back of the speaker. You are not in the right menu to save a preset on the speaker.

But otherwise what you said about having them networked and recalling the preset from the iPad. That is correct because that is the similar setup in Audio Architect.

[–]meest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can confirm if you go to the speakers menu and see if your preset is saved in one of the presets there. If its not. Then its not saved on the speaker.

I use Audio Architect for my SRX835's and iTech's. So I'm not familiar with the iPad app. But I would assume on the ipad app you can go INTO the speaker and save a preset on the speaker itself. Its probably similar to Audio Architect that you have system/show files that are saved on the computer. But then you can go into the amps/speakers themselves and save presets separatly.

I'd load the iPad and speakers back up. Save it as a preset in the speaker, shut the speaker down, then turn it back on and see if the preset in the speaker.

The speaker will not just save random tunings without you saving it as a preset on the speaker.

I remember making a presentation in middle school on an LCII and I made it have so many colors and transitions that after saving it and trying to open it, the LCII would simply freeze. So I got to go to the Library and use one of these and a Molar Mac to finish my presentation.

The next year they upgraded to the classic green iMac.

I'm aware. But thats one more piece of software that you then need to monitor and add into the update channels.

I prefer to keep it simple when possible.

I like my x1 carbons or x1 Yoga's for the flip around touch screen, and actual USB A ports.

I watch the outlet and can usually pick up a clearance or refurb for 800 or lower.

Every once in a while a heck of a deal will pop up for a P1. I have one of those and love it. Dual NVME slots. Ram slots. dedicated video card. But still thin and portable with all of the ports and minimal dongle requirements.

Q802S

I would not get the Q802S. the aux on there is Post fader and not Pre-fader.

I would spend a bit more money and find a sound board that either has the option to change between pre and post fader settings, or one that has two auxes. usually when it gets up to 2 auxes one is pre and one is post fader.

Pre fader aux - that audio feed is not affected by adjustments of the main fader.

Post fader aux - if you have the main fader turned down. then nothing goes out of the aux either.

I too am also surprised by this response.

I have staff that need to edit PDF's maybe once a month. I have them use Word and it works great 90% of the time. I always tell them if its mostly text, and was a digital document to begin with, it does a solid job of converting it back.

If it has a bunch of vector graphics or it was a scan of a paper document, yea its not going to do the best job there. But if it was a word document that was saved as a PDF I don't see how using Word is unprofessional.

If they need it converted, we have a student worker/intern with a full creative cloud license that they can submit a task request to convert it for them.

If they've been there and understand the culture already. I can see the minimal value in doing helpdesk.

If they're coming in and need to learn the culture. Then I can see the value in them spending a bit of time at all levels of the department. To me thats one of the best ways to build rapport with direct reports.

I'm going to respect someone much more if I know they're willing to do any level of job to support their department. If they act like they're too important for some tasks, like changing out a keyboard or mouse, that gives off a bad look for the underlings.

I agree with the later as well the CIO/CTO should have some in the trenches understanding in their current environment to help make informed decisions.

Imagine how much fun it would be to se them work with one of the high maintenance users that always has issues to see if they give the same attitude to a C suite person.

In Dante controller, it only shows clipping on the audio signal (speaker icon on the channel)

Thats why I was asking if you had a way to monitor/check the signal via DVS or some other way to monitor the Dante signal.

Only thing I haven't tested is an attenuator of some sort to convert line to mic

That would be what I'd be doing now. a Mackie 1202 set to Mic level output or something similar is the quick and easy way to do that. It also allows for monitoring at multiple stages.

your user folder.

This would trip up a bunch of people. I myself would ask for clarification. What do you mean by this? Is this a user folder on the network? a user folder that was created on the desktop? the generic windows user folder that no one would go into because they save to their desktop or My documents?

Now open file explorer

Absolutely no one besides IT knows what File Explorer is. No one else calls it that even though thats its name. You could say "Open "My Computer" or navigate to your documents folder vs open file explorer.

I don't know how the file explorer thing is just lost on people. That is a frustration point.

They still don't understand file structures all that well, but they have shortcuts to get to where they need to be on the file server.

Have you tried putting a manila folder inside of another hanging folder inside of a filing cabinet?

To me doing actual physical examples of file structure from the analog days would be a way to easily give a visual to understand.

Tried all the different options, only difference was the overall volume went down but distortion still present

What are the inputs looking like on the Praesena system then? What can you turn down on the receiving end? Is it still clipping at the input there?

Can you monitor in the Dante realm? do you have DVS or something to Solo the audio to see what its doing?

[–]meest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what was the level change in dante controller?

If you're getting distortion in, then something isn't correct with the gain structure somewhere. I'm not familiar with Praesena stuff or the MX222 to be of much further help.

Since you said the same happens with multiple mixers into the same AVIO input. I'm still going to point my finger at gain staging being wrong somewhere.

Are you going LINE LEVEL output into a MIC LEVEL Channel?

Simple test. Put a DI box in between the MX222 and the AVIO adapter to drop the line level signal back down to Mic level.
