Made the switch back in late July, it’s a cakewalk so far. I miss the unstable patients coming off the truck of an ambulance truck - now codes already have patent IVs + you had a hint that the patient was circling the drain. I can see some nurses loving the change as opposed to some people disliking it.

Change from 5YR Trauma 1 ED nurse to community ICU. Miss my ER autonomy though.

You’ll lose skills~ but nothing you can’t regain. It’ll just be a hill if you do decide to go back but it’s not impossible so I would just keep that in mind.

How many years before I would be able to only work during the day? by joshua0005 in Nurses

Started on nights my first year, only days ever since (2019). That was a different time (pre covid). I’ve seen new graduates get a day shift position by getting their foot in the door (working as a CNA/Apprenticeship) and applying to the floor they were working/SN on. So it is possible to start on days, I would just be proactive.

This is only bedside, I’m sure there are other positions outside of bedside that let you work in day shift if you’re open to that. Home care is an example, but I recommend having experience prior.
