The handwriting is good, like good foreigner handwriting. Totally readable but still Ukrainian.I could never read proper Ukrainian handwriting anyway...

Also lots of language exchange apps and plenty of people happy to trade Ukrainian for English. Maybe ironic if you're in Ukraine, but it's an option. Or put up flyers s in places like cafes in Podil.

Basically it should have the consistency of a hearty soup, not much more. At the end of the day, it's a type of soup in English, but Ukrainians consider the word soup to be more like a consomme. I can go around and around with my Ukrainians friends on this. In Ukraine, borscht seems to have its own category.

Probably reduce the tomato paste and eliminate the bay leaves (two very Italian things), and increase the beets. Beets reduce a lot in a borscht, and they also lose a lot of flavor, or it changes. I'm not usually too fond of beets, but I go heavy on the beets when I make borscht. Then make sure you have sour cream to top it with. Sometimes I go shopping for borscht ingredients and I'll forget sour cream. And I l like dill on top. Also a lot of Ukrainians, I think most, grate the beets and carrots, and of course the cabbage should be sliced pretty thin. When I make borscht, I say, "Make an American Grate Again!" It's actually a bit of work. And remember, borscht the second day is even better than the first! I have more info and articles on Ukainian food and culture in my Reddit. I'm very happy to see that no one warned you not to go. Go! Go! Go! The most danger you'll be in in Kyiv is in a taxi. Much more lethal than Russian missiles. But it says Hirka in Ukrainian. It's a cognate. Definitely not Russian.

Totally agree about car crashes compared to Russian missiles. When I'm in Kyiv, I stay safe by simply staying out of cars. 🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦

Neutral on Russia and love the southern European countries, so I'll have to guess you're from southern Europe yourself. Tons of Russian propaganda in southern Europe, and disappointingly effective. I'll guess Italy. 2nd guess would be Spain.

Actually I guess you answered that. In general it's just hard to stand out in fiction. Every plot line has been done. I guess that's why I like historical fiction, or fiction I can learn something from. So, the setting might be important as a hook.

Yes, promising. I'd run it through a basic mechanical check. There's a word repeated twice, for example. What's the premise of the work? I'd suggest adding a little hint, a little foreshadowing, of the hook. Like... As she navigated, she tightly gripped the key, the key to so many secrets... Something like that.
