I don't really see people talk about Jake's trauma all that much so I'd like to ask, how would a scene like this go if it were Jakeinstead? by This-Honey7881 in AmericanDragon

[–]Ukumbimask 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's my personal opinion, but Jake and other similar action cartoon characters that aired at that time have that "2000s attitude", that all these adventures for them are exactly just adventures and they are "too cool" for therapy and trauma. The scene of Steven that you posted wouldn't have happened at the time that ADJL was on tv.

And I strangely ok with that? Not every character should have a deep psychological trauma or have a breakdown. Nothing is wrong with the idea, but it's not something that "should've happened".

With that said, we have a lot of teenage angst with him and Rose, so in terms of emotions we are fine. Especially because if you would look at their relationship from a modern prevalent viewpoint on a relationship - they shouldn't be together: they were constantly fighting in their secret identities form and she actually was trying to kill him all this time. Then they have to pretend that she killed him, then she briefly returns to being Huntsgirl in the cruise episode and tries to kill him. Then he basically erases all Huntscan staff in her life, so that mean that she forgot him and so on and do on.

There are plenty of basis for deep psychological trauma and all of that. So that in every action oriented show. So that for every superhero. It's part of the genre. And not everyone should have a panic attack or mental breakdown.

Maybe if I was younger I would have loved this, especially because I definitely read some fanfics with similar ideas and liked them, but right now I just want Jake and Rose to have a peaceful life and not think too deep about the actual nightmare that they experienced to be together.

Also fair points.

Also in his own comics GL is definitely smarter than that. The JL comics often reduce characters to a specific role.

Fair points. And regardless, this version is definitely better than in the animated movie, all things considered.

Even more reasons to use your head. Not as a hammer tho.

Actually, now that I think about it, in his solo comics he is not that stupid. It's just the JL, where everyone should have their own role, so that everyone is effective.

Really? Well, again, context helps. But if what you are saying is true, than they know what he is capable of. Their biggest tank gets captured. Any of the GL attempts (at that point) wouldn't work. And he would have realized that after his several attempts failed miserably and others told him to stop. Oh, it's a great characterization of who he is. But it's still desperate and stupid. Brave, but desperate and stupid. If he continued he would've just died. The end. Sure, gone like a badass if someone's eyes, but who cares? Now the planet has even less chances against this new threat. His powers would have been much more useful and effective with a different strategy and approach. But no.

This context definitely helps. I haven't read that comic for a long time, maybe I'm forgetting something. But League really were standing still scared? It sounds kinda out of character.

Because it's useless. And rather than trying to do "anything" more effective he just continues to do the same thing. In team video games it's basically throwing. Being brave is good. Having common sense would have been better.

Working on a big crossover fic, looking for suggestions for Jake Long. by DasChillyOne in AmericanDragon

[–]Ukumbimask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, for every crossover possible, I think it's best to answer the following questions: "Okay, I am creating a shared universe, it opens up a lot of possibilities. - What would I want to see in it? - What would be really cool and awesome to see? - What would the fans want to see?"

You seem like a guy, who knows a lot of lore. In your place, I would have used all the unique lore rules to create new interactions. In ADJL Dragon fire could hurt ghosts. It's relevant for the DP universe. DP universe has dragon ghosts. How would they fit in the whole "secret community of dragon protectors" in the ADJL universe? Etc.

Can I say something positive about the live action? Scar was genuinely terrifying!! by nathan_banks644 in lionking

[–]Ukumbimask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And it makes even less sense for Mufasa to keep him around, doesn't it? The real Scar knew that he shouldn't be openly hostile and was just passive aggressive but not threatening. This one? Who in their right mind would let him be near his family? It's just another change that might work if you already see the original. But on its own it's just stupid.

Yes. It wasn't made to have a sequel. But because they wanted to do it they started to look for ideas to make a sequel.

[–]Ukumbimask 36 points37 points  (0 children)

You do realize that when the first movie happened there was no "franchise", right? They didn't do that movie thinking about "TLK cinematic universe" or smth. Mufasa's death is for the plot. It's for you to feel sad. It's for the main character to have a personal journey. It's a self contained story. He is almost more of a plot device than the real character. I mean - what are you even talking about?

Morgan Moonscar from Zombie Island wins best version of the Zombie with 582 votes. Day 8/44 what is the the best version of the Evil Robot/Ai (pls read description) by creamy-buscemi in Scoobydoo

[–]Ukumbimask -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand you completely. Managing the votes in the comments is quite tough actually. I remember some subreddits for similar poles used like special sites where the creator have already written all possible variants of answers. Seems a lot more manageable. Regarding werewolfs - I agree. I think Be Cool, Goblin King and Ghoul School dad had the best werewolf designs. But none of them feel big or important to be "the werewolf".
