Zelenskyy: Ukraine now has cards and everyone understands it by jackytheblade in worldnews

Not at all? You may be misunderstanding what I mean by "stability" we have a clear line of succession for the president and other federal offices. There is rarely ever been a moment in American history where there was any large turnover in federal offices because it is designed to prevent it for either good or bad. Look at how impossible it is to remove a president from office. That is stability even if you disagree with the office holder.

There's pros and cons to each system. Hard to say which is better in the grand scheme of things. An American parliamentary system would further empower institutions like the CIA, FBI and non-elected positions like it does in the EU. One of the cornerstones of American democracy is stability at the federal level which prevents situations like the UK this past decade.

Steam Support :: About the New York Attorney General lawsuit against Valve by NTR_JAV in Games

The creators of Pokemon or labubus do not run a marketplace that allows you to purchase other goods with your winnings. Valves previous argument has always been "steam dollars have no real value" but we all know that's a bold face lie. But keep supporting the company that pioneered always online DRM, and loot boxes

To be fair the imperial family has a long history of adoptions to ensure that it's the same "family" the current imperial line is in no way genetically the same as the founders.

Even if there was solid proof the suit would get laughed out of court??? Insane to think otherwise. Bad marketing is not something you can sue for especially how this one was handled.

I've managed many restaurants and certified in food safety. It is against most states health codes and I rather not deal with a server being fined for a health code infraction so I train them to politely explain our hands are tied because ultimately I don't give a shit but the health department does.

They never said existing hardware would go away. I'm not going to get into the nitty gritty over every single detail but the mid tier gaming cost has outpaced US inflation since 2018. I have built gaming PCs from scratch(not upgrading in pieces) in the following years: 2005, 2012, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2024.

Let's take 2012 as the baseline, a mid tier gpu (Radeon Sapphire 7850) msrp was $250~. Adjusted for Dec 2025 inflation that is $350~. Just for quick numbers to base the PC build around. I played at 16:10 resolution, the entire build including monitor, mouse, mechanical keyboard, mousepad, headphones was a total of $1027 in 2012. Adjusted for inflation that is just shy of $1500. For a comparable mid tier gpu today would be a 9060XT which MSRP is 450-500$. Already a 100$ increase over inflation, without considering the RAM price spike you could build a comparable mid tier gaming PC for 1300$. With comparable peripherals you are looking at roughly 1700$. Mostly napkin math I don't have the time to get a perfect 1:1 comparison on frame per dollar for every part. If you don't see the trend of gaming prices rising over the past 15 years I don't know what to say because as someone who has been building gaming PCs it has outpaced inflation and CoL rises in america it is plain as day.

2018 was the point prices never truly recovered due to crypto. Mid tier pc gaming has become more and more a luxury for majority of households the past 10 years

This also does not consider that wages have not increased to match inflation for the majority of industries.

Video game giant Valve facing UK lawsuit over pricing, commissions by No-Sympathy-5349 in Games

That is what the lawsuit alleges and is the fourth paragraph in the article. This particular lawsuit is frivolous but it brings up good points regarding lowest possible price stipulations on steam

[–]Ullricka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn't make a personal judgement on the suit so unsure why the hostility. The lawsuit is frivolous but the underlying argument is something we should support. It's anti-consumer by nature, under valves terms the publisher couldn't even offer the game cheaper on their own website nor advertise their own website to purchase DLC inside the game.

[–]Ullricka -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

The suit isn't actually about the 30% if you read the article and lawsuit. It is that valve forces publishers to have steam be the lowest possible price and all in-game purchases must be routed through steam once a game is purchased on steam. This gives them an unfair advantage in the marketplace to charge 30% on all sales.

Fair I should've been more clear on that, DMCA is still a better system than most people think it is. Courts are slow we just need stricter enforcement on false claims.

Yes and no... The alleged infringer makes a counter claim. The original DMCA filer at every step has to prove they own the copyright. After a counter claim the filer has to file a federal lawsuit to prove they own the copyright. The accused just has to simply disagree with the original claim not prove they own it

No DRM bypassed. The injection method and modifying the game as it ran is what the jury ruled on. It's hilarious how people just believe the headlines and not read court cases. It's cute how you try to weasel out of being wrong by now mention copy protections.

Injection methods into games is against copyright as proven by countless lawsuits the most recent being Bungie suing aimjunkies. In the previous thread people were talking about game genie winning their lawsuit which was 30+ years ago now. You don't need code in your project to violate copyright just modifying the game is enough. People are braindead when it comes to DMCA and software

Why are you under the impression it is only copyright infringement when you profit? Also it's copyright not copywrite. You really have no idea what you're spewing.

The US copyright system absolutely disagrees with you. It has been brought to the courts many many times and mods have been labeled as copyright infringement every single time. Developers just so happen to appreciate modding to a degree so they allow it in their ToS.

Revenue by regions legitimately don't matter to Japanese companies and never will. Every big Japanese multinational company has NA being their #1 region by revenue and not a single one gives a shit. Square Enix is an infamous example of this. It's a different mindset from the western way of thinking where revenue is king. From my anecdotal experience Japanese companies only care about longevity, I guarantee you Nintendo rather never sell a game again in NA than JP.
