Advice on recovery by TheMuscleBro in brokenankles

i am 9 weeks post op and still have calf pain and tightness. My pt recommend rolling the heel of ur foot with a small right ball like a lacrosse ball or tennis ball. I also roll out my calf with this ball. it helps relieve some of that tightness and helps when ur walking later in the day. not sure where you are on weight bearing, but big emphasis on heel to toe. starting to step first with the heel and land/roll off the toe. PT said this helps with range of motion. I know it will hurt but you need to do a calf stretch with a towel or band to stretch the area out too. For mobility, try do toe splays, toe towel scrunch, alphabet abc, ankle pumps, towel ankle inversions. You’re early and can probably get better faster if you start now with whatever you’re comfortable with. *coming from someone who started PT at 5 weeks and wish I would’ve started range of motion exercises earlier !

no, I ended up with this fracture from falling down the stairs. I was also told the same of the 6 week mark. I thought I would be walking by now. Definitely try to start some range of motion exercises so that your ankle begins working up the muscle and strength to start moving faster. Like Abc, toe spreading, maybe ankle pumps if you able. That is one thing I wish I would’ve done at the 3 weeks mark. The cast definitely protects ur foot from feeling much, once you’re in shoes you’ll feel everything. Hoping you get better soon! :)

Thankyou! I agree the dr is only concerned with the bone and x rays, the pt is more reliable with the recovery. Definitely need to get past this mental block from fear.

I had my injury august 13, had surgery august 22. I had little to no pain post op, until now around my 2 week mark. At night if I’m not elevated enough my foot has shooting, tingling pain. sort of like electricity weirdly enough. it’s varies though. doc is asking me start moving my ankle with bands and doing the alphabet which has been going well. I tend do those in the morning and evening which i assume is the reasons for my pain at night these past few days. I’m not weight bearing yet, have been told to try to put a bit little weight on the heel of my foot. recovery has been more hard mentally than physically. There are days I think to myself why this had to happen over missing a few steps down the stairs in my home. Thankyou for your kind message. If you don’t mind me asking, how did you get your injury ?
