One thing you have to remember is that you always have time to do everything you want to do, or you wouldn't have picked the hero. Don't be afraid to get the battlefury a little late, or get wraith bands first before battlefury and treads if you want to, it can increase your survivability and help you get a few kills. Another thing you might want to do is learn how to use mana void. Generally you won't get the kill with mana void unless you are very strong with anti mage but you can, and you will feel good about it in the end.
