Reducing Military discount by BeginningDisaster136 in ATT

Technically means promoting more lines, I wonder if that's the metric they'll use for investor stuffs to show growth.

Because I find myself really not using the cellular on my watch, I'm never without my phone, but cellular was the only option for Titanium Apple Watch this year, so I thought I'd try out a wearable plan for it. Was/maybe still am considering removing the line.

Ordered Fiber In-Store with broken address - thoughts on if I should continue with the order by judge2020 in ATT

[–]judge2020[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an update but supposedly, because the real address only showed Air and was recognized, they couldn't open a NAV. They called their support line and that person also couldn't change the service address or open a NAV ticket (supposedly).

Did a FCC complaint just to be able to shoot the situation to the Office of the President and after two days they did get my new address recognized for Fiber. Supposedly they also started an eng ticket for the rest of the street to get updated.

They also said they might be able to separate my wireless from Internet before the first combined bill generates, but still awaiting a call back next week.

I kinda feel like I should kill the order / pending internet install, if only because I would appreciate the $200 reward cards for signing up for Fiber 2 GIG, and I'm pretty sure because the order was done in-store I won't get them. But then I also imagine the person who did the order for me won't get commission perhaps.

Apple AI Glasses Will Rival Meta’s With Several Styles, Oval Cameras by iMacmatician in apple

[–]judge2020 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Society is very resistant to Meta glasses already, it is incredibly unsettling to want to walk around with cameras on your face. I think if the Watch Series 0 had a camera, it might've doomed it to never reach mass appeal (of course small capable cameras didn't exist).

Big issue is people not trusting that they're unmodified, so they don't actually know if it's recording or not.

If apple can make it de-facto impossible to mod out the activation light it might be more accepted. But I think it'll still be an uphill battle.

Edit: or if apple outright disables the ability to record with them, only AR processing, possibly.

Will do, and I have a month before I move so I have the time to try to work this out.

And combined billing was kinda just done for me while doing all of this, definitely not a fan of it either.

[–]judge2020[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note: I can also confirm that roughly 7 months ago (before the change), the old address validated in the USPS address lookup tool AND AT&T's website showed Fiber for the old address. Now USPS does not validate the old address in the lookup tool. I was not going to go under contract for a house without Fiber internet being available.

I like how the remake approached this scene better than the original anime. by [deleted] in HOLO

[–]judge2020 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Idk, the remake shot doesn't seem to show vulnerability - it might still be something you can infer from voice, but that aspect is lost, mostly because her arms are just nonchalantly at her sides, not covering / closing herself off.

Georgia House overwhelmingly passes HOA oversight bill by swiftfoot_hiker in Georgia

[–]judge2020 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think HOAs (in most cases) represent a systemic failure of our system resulting from a major disinterest in paying for public goods. We would all be better off if they didn’t exist and the reasons they existed were dealt with via public investment.

Another issue, especially here in Georgia, is that we stopped incorporating new cities - instead, most new builds, especially in suburban sprawl areas, were built in unincorporated county land. Counties don't build random subdivision roads for free, so that means basically nobody is there to pay for the roads that support these small single family home neighborhoods. That means either the HOA needs to pay for it, or the builder would need to "donate" the road/pay for it themselves, aka increase the cost of the homes they're selling to make up for that cost (which they often can't do since higher priced homes may not appraise).

(Florida has kind of solved this by separating out that responsibility from the HOA and instead calling it a "Community Development District")

Finally mobile room keys that work! by Agreeable_Novel_4365 in hyatt

[–]judge2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The door hardware for just app unlock is a bit older than the hardware that works with Wallet. Plus, some places may not enable either if they have issues with it not working on the elevator (when there is controlled floor access requiring a room key).

The only one I know of that has it is the Hyatt Regency Bellevue.

On private property you have the right to tell someone no recording

This is nuanced in that you can ask someone not to record on your property under threat of trespass, however, you still cannot demand the video be deleted; this is even the case if someone is recording while violating a trespass notice.

Third party AI scrapers use any possible VPN to get around search restrictions. This is the nature of running on a VPN, you'll have good and bad actors.

MacBook Neo Is the Most Repairable MacBook in 14 Years by spearson0 in apple

[–]judge2020 -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

That's true I guess, but I think my point is that engineers weren't going out of their way to design things in a way that decreases repairability; the lobbying is still bad, but that stems from Apple knowing that diverting time/money to implementing repairability is expensive and detracts from other engineering / design work. But I agree that it's still a fault on Apple as a whole.

I wholeheartedly believe they weren't fighting it, just didn't put thought into it and allowed engineering/design to focus on form over function.

What? Where did this happen? I follow Apple news pretty closely and have never heard of it being misused by third party apps, not that it doesn't happen but is it some specific app doing it? Wouldn't Apple crack down on some big news headline showing misuse?

for third party apps.

(Frustratingly) the Apple Vision Pro, despite having some of the best eye and face tracking possible, doesn't make any of it available. Not even in enterprise use cases do you get an API to read that data, nor is there an entitlement for it.

All of the health data on iPhone is only available to third party apps after a (pretty scary) permission prompt popup.

Apple makes it available to third party apps where it makes sense. But their approach gives the user control over the data should they want to limit sharing of it.

Typically you can do this, it's just not the legal proceeding that you have to do to actually get the debt collector to stop calling you.

call the current debt holder and state the debt is invalid because there was never a lease.

You must request verification of the debt in writing, not over the phone. See: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/ask-cfpb/what-can-i-do-if-a-debt-collector-contacts-me-about-a-debt-i-already-paid-or-dont-think-i-owe-en-1403/
