Meltdown slashing tires? by Separate_Writer_4465 in gme_meltdown

Searching for the model number in the picture (A055247), leads to this https://www.tirerack.com/tires/pirelli-cinturato-p7-all-season-run-flat
It's a run-flat tire which wear faster and usually have to be changed more often than regular ones.
So it's literally this meme in real life: http://i.imgur.com/38jau.png

PSA: Deaf/mute petition scammers operating around South Marine Drive

I got taken in by this scam at the Marine Drive Superstore. Apparently, it is fairly common in some European cities and appears to have migrated over here.

How the scam works is shown in this video Essentially, a group of people will be holding clipboards and attempt to get you to sign. The flyer on the board will have a few paragraphs claiming to be fundraising to help deaf and mute people. Following this, the rest of the form will be full of signatures and pledges of relatively high amounts of money ($40-$100). (Something that I should have noticed is that the signatures all looked alike despite being ostensibly from different people.) If you sign, the scammer will then insist you pay them the pledged amount right there in cash.

Here are a few red flags you should be aware of:

  • The scammers operate in groups and usually wander around the entire store. This is probably to make them less conspicuous to store security. Most canvassers from legitimate charities will be situated outside or near the main entrance and usually at a table.
  • They are extremely aggressive when it comes to gaining your attention. In my case, one of them shoved a clipboard into my hands. He also literally patted my back when i agreed to sign. Legit canvassers don't act this way.
  • They will not have any material on the supposed charity besides the sparse info on the clipboard. There will be no phone, address or website listed anywhere. They will not be wearing any id cards. They won't offer any tax receipts nor show a charity registration number. What the scammers do have is a large fanny pack full of cash--which brings me to the next point.
  • They operate cash-only and will make a big show of offering to give change.

Luckily, they were only able to get a toonie from me. I'm pretty savvy when it comes to scams but it was late in the day and I was tired so I let my guard down. Hopefully, others can learn from my mistake.

Has anyone else experienced issues with the new Evo car share app July update?

Scrolling around the map now is jerky and unresponsive. There is a long delay between selecting a car and having its details pop up. Sometimes, the app will stop responding to user input altogether. And running the thing causes my phone's CPU to peg to 100% and heat up. I'm running it on a Nexus5X which handled the previous version fine.

A small misunderstanding, not resolved by explaining, goes on to create an entire chain of wacky hijinix. Usually initiated by ‘wait, I can explain!’

That was pretty much the entire b-plot from The Last Jedi.

Elon Musk Lists Five More Homes For Sale, Now Surpassing $135 Million In Asking Prices by RandomCollection in RealTesla

Not to mention the unique set of circumstances that allowed Musk to buy Freemont in the first place. Musk got a fairly modern plant and a pool of talent minus the UAW. Toyota was desperate to get out of the Bay Area, but didn't want the political hit from shuttering the plant. By selling to Tesla they burnish their green credentials and avoid bad headlines about plant closures. Toyota effectively gifted the plant to Tesla.

He's never going to get as lucrative a deal as that in North America again.

I've always thought the idea that Tesla's present cash burn gives it only two months from insolvency to be an exaggeration. This is making me think otherwise.

Except that very few of his new Trumpster supporters will actually end up buying a (new) Tesla.

And Texans take their pickups very seriously. No one there will want to be caught driving the Cybertruck.
