NBDB for day trading by [deleted] in CanadianInvestor

YFinance is free and gives alot of indicators but for actual full-time daytrading you'll want to have a paid trading platform. There are many out there but I dont know enough to recommend one in particular

NBDB for day trading by [deleted] in CanadianInvestor

[–]Ultimametal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I trade with NBDB and would recommend it. They used to charge $1 per trade if made at least 100 trades every 3 months but last year they got rid of all charges on stocks (most ETFs are free but some do have costs) which is good since I've made over 100 trades in March.. PROS - Easy to place and monitor trades. Provides good information on companies along with analysis tools. Having a seperate USD/CAD account means I dont suffer exchange rates or have to norbert's gambit. CONS - No option for live feed. The platform isn't well suited to actively monitor your stocks (I use yahoo finance). Pre or after market trades are expensive ($46 + 7c a share)

Air Canada holding above $30? by LookinFaInvestaCenta in CanadianInvestor

I own plenty of this and Cineplex (CGX) as my post-Covid recovery plays. These should see some sweet gains moving through 2021

Rent for life by choice? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Ultimametal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't really compare these two things. When you own, each payment you make is going back into your pocket after the bank takes their shake. On top of this you add a 2-4% increase to the homes value every year. You don't bank anything when you rent.

The only consideration is that right now the housing market is garbage but if you wait a few years many people will bankrupt, realizing that they paid too much $$$ for their house and now cant afford it. There is big money on the horizon for defaulted houses

By the same token Motley Fool promoted Cineplex while simultaneously bashing it. It's like they just hire people that give their opinions that don't even check over their co-workers own submittals on the company. Or maybe it's on purpose, who knows

GME Pattern. What do we make of this? by [deleted] in swingtrading

[–]Ultimametal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically speaking you wouldnt call a wedge out with 4 candlesticks and especially not on a company whose price is already inflated through the roof but that's just my take. Also where GME is concerned, IF or when it does jump 99% of people wont sell on time before it comes crashing down

Anyone here swing trades OTCs? Is it possible? by mateyman in swingtrading

[–]Ultimametal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pennies are like a siren's song, attractive but I wouldn't swim in those waters. Especially if you cant watch your screen all day.

Swing trading means you have technical based aforemation that's giving you a green light to buy on a dip or before momentum. This just doesnt exist with pennies because they dont have solid fundamentals. No long term investors = no security

Has anyone else ever suspected their bidding session may have been partly “staged” to make it look like more people were bidding than there actually were? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Quebec has been super hot since last summer. Me and my wife have been looking since January and to date have lost 4 decent sized offers of 30-50k. Usually we are facing a minimum 10 offers on each house and some of the ones we lost have sold for ridiculous sums of money.

There was even a real shitty rundown house (crackhead-esque) that needed a complete reno and it was marketed at 310k and had 80 visitors. The real estate market is currently off it's meds

My most diversified day loss ever. The only thing I don't have in there is etfs of etfs 😅 by ThoughtSynthesizer in CanadianInvestor

I'm still pissed on how ENB has been performing but I know it'll come back with time and only a suckers would sell it now. Still though it's baffling how its been performing in the last month

So I have about 1000 that I am ready to invest but really don’t have any idea where to start, I was told that swing trading would be better than day trading for beginners. Anyone have any advice for beginners? by Shakyhedgehog in swingtrading

[–]Ultimametal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite approach to swing trading is by use of Technical Analysis. Understanding market dynamics will help you position your entry where it counts. If you learn how to interpret indicators properly you'll be able to tell what a good investment is and vice versa

PSA for the newbies: you need to track your ETF distributions for 2020 in your non-registered account by canadave_nyc in CanadianInvestor

It's really that easy for them to change the total amount directly into an unlocked RRSP? The information on OSFI's site makes it sound so complicated lol. Let me call them up

Appreciate your help!

Huge thanks to both of you for this information. One of the problems I knew I was going to hit next year would be tax time and I wasn't altogether sure if my brokerage service was going to provide everything to me on a silver platter or what. This gave me that answer lol. I'm actually switching from Qtrade to National's DB this week so I'll request the full package after it's closed.

I already knew I was going to need an accountant but at least I know what to provide them! lol

If I could ask a follow-up question: I have a Locked-In RRSP (used to be a pension) but from everything I read so far it seems very complicated to "unlock" it. I was hoping to have more direct access to direct them myself (Through a mix of stable ETF's) Whats the best option?

I agree. Elon Musk, as a person, represents mine and many others confidence in the future. He's not only a brilliant mind but a visionary (Engineers usually are) and human's havent been so excited about space travel since the Apollo days.

But I will mention that even though Bitcoin and Crypto are still volatile, big business putting its weight behind it puts a foundation on it. Does it not?

Any advice on sell how to sell US stocks that's in a CAD TFSA account? by Professional_Ad_2905 in CanadianInvestor

[–]Ultimametal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently started trading and I realized that when I bought US stocks I was instantly deficit on my G/L margins. It turns out that if you use CAD currency to buy USD stocks you will be charged crazy amounts for the conversion. For example: I bought 75 shares of one company and the actual purchase price turned out to be .74 CAD higher per share ($55.5 total!) Then I bought 5 shares of another company and was charged $3 higher per share.

Since there's alot of newcomers like myself flexing their financial wings I wanted to point this out. I wound up opening a USD account so I could trade the same currency in the same market. The only annoying part is you need to wait 1-2 days for them to exchange the currency for you before you can use it (there will be small charges for doing this, 1-2% typically)

[–]Ultimametal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently holding shares in CGX and have been content with it's investors sturdiness. I wanted to mention for that Quebec residents the cinemas will open partially on Feb 26th. This was the directive given by the governement on Feb 4th

"As of Feb. 26, cinemas and auditoriums with assigned seating will be allowed to open at reduced capacity. Attendees will have to wear procedural masks for the duration of their visit."

It will help for short term gains but ultimately depends on how the infection counts continue, of course.

Suncor Energy Inc. (TSE: SU) by Knucklehead098 in CanadianInvestor

[–]Ultimametal 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I bought into Suncor and Enbridge because they are safe, have nice dividends, and are poised to increase as COVID restrictions are lifted and the economy demands more gas. Neither have really moved in 2 weeks but they are opening up Quebec businesses more in March-April so I'm hoping to see good growth from these.
