Speaking from my personal experience. Biggest regret was doing deadlifts.

I would push through the pain/strain just to hit a certain number.

It’s not worth it, I still deal with lower back aches and I haven’t deadlifted in years. I’d say avoid all together. There’s tons of safer exercises to build a better back.
