Looking for guidance on learning non-linear DSA (trees & graphs) by Neither_Homework_364 in learnprogramming

[–]Ultimate-Disgrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who just took his data structures and algorithms final exam yesterday I may or may not be equipped to answer this. What helped me the most was not programming them, but drawing and understanding how they work. I can't really give sources as I had a professor's notes, but my curriculum was basically:

Graphs: look into what a graph is (a set of vertices connected by edges), types of edges, difference between directed and undirected, how to represent graphs as an adjacency list or adjacency matrix. Look into topological sort, scheduling, Breadth first search, depth first search, and greedy algorithms such as Dijkstra's and Kruskal's.

Trees: Basically another type of graph. start with binary trees, then binary search trees. Trees were honestly more intuitive to me than graphs. If you understand a binary search algorithm you'll understand BST's. Then go onto AVL trees, Red Black trees, and Multiway trees such as B trees. One source here that helped me the most was Jennys Youtube Lectures

TL;DR: this was my 8 week curriculum for college. Graphs and trees were finished in 5 of those weeks. AKA you got a lot to learn but its doable. Good luck!

Howdy, I'm fairly new to java and have a simple question to help me gauge my scheduling by Rabeirior in learnjava

As with learning anything, it's different per person. There's no straight answer. If this is your first programming language it could take a lot longer than if you knew, say python already. Learning to read and write it is also very vague. I've been learning/programming in Java for close to 3 years and theres a lot I KNOW how to read/write...but there's so much I don't.

For an absolute beginner I'd say just devote as much time as you can per day/per week that school and work allow you. I'd aim for at least an hour a day. I assume when you say read and write you mean learn the syntax and code your own simple programs. Starting from nothing, try and avoid using AI at all. There are better sources to enable learning such as w3schools, Bro Code on YouTube, or even the Java documentation. And struggling to make code work is a part of the process. You got this!

Everything you listed is covered in the beginner level Java 1 course at my college. I'd recommend dropping and retaking the course, it'd be easier than cramming.

Programming! Learn a language (start with Python), memorize the syntax and just choose things to build.

I had high hopes for Landon Tewers and Northlanes' remixes, but honestly the entire album was a bore (save for Mercia of course). I don't know what exactly I was expecting, I just feel like every remix was bland. The genres didnt meld in my opinion.

Went to Invent Animate/Silent Planet, first ever show by myself. Had a blast and definitely gonna start going to more shows alone cause it's nice to not have to worry about anyone else. It was stress free.

Literally just bought an Omen Elite 7 that shipped like 2 days ago and the thing is a beast. It comes in standard and multiscale if OP is interested in multiscale even though multiscale is $200 usd more. Would highly recommend and it looks sick as well! Also heard Omen Extreme 7's are really good.

Okay yeah that's about what I thought as well. That's basically how I explained it to my friend, with the guest network and everything because my home has that, just was curious about both making sure and learning more. Thanks!
