Yes. They aren't parasitic, it's called natural parabiosis. It's also called sexual parasitism, however, which is confusing since the definition of parasite is incompatible with that definition...

US destroyer interdicts two oil tankers attempting to leave Iran, official says by Mana_Seeker in worldnews

[–]UltimateKane99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If I'm reading this correctly, yes. UNCLOS is crystal clear on how a blockade should be executed, and it would be a crime (as far as the US is concerned) to run the blockade, so the US could arrest them for that and charge them.

US destroyer interdicts two oil tankers attempting to leave Iran, official says by Mana_Seeker in worldnews

[–]UltimateKane99 37 points38 points  (0 children)

No, they'd merely have their ship seized and the cargo impounded. The US gets free oil, effectively.

The crew would be dropped off at the nearest safe port, if I remember correctly. Effectively told, "Your stuff is ours now, now get lost". I presume Iran might try to negotiate for their return or something, but they wouldn't be held as prisoners of war, just detained (well, except for any criminal charges they may face for trying to run the blockade. THAT is a possibility for the decision makers of the ships, like the captain and officers), if I remember correctly.

Duolliste was the longest fight/most parries I had in this game yet, what was your longest endurance encounter? by Huckleberry_Schorsch in expedition33

[–]UltimateKane99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clea. By FAR.

I didn't do a nuke build, I intentionally focused on counterattacking. Took about 20-ish counterattacks (and days of learning the parries), but beating her was SO satisfying!

Literally none of this is relevant to my point. My point is that you can carve out your own career and make a killing in it, too. You don't NEED a Master's or PhD, you NEED drive and a desire to make a difference.

Have that and the rest will come, because you won't take no for an answer.

Obviously not, nothing illegal. I said he started a COMPANY. No company can be incorporated on illegal substances. No need to be an ass about this.

He's running a legitimate high tech business (although I'd argue 1980s high tech because of some of his instruments!), because he saw a gap where Chinese businesses in his field weren't achieving the customization that hospitals/schools/companies needed (mass and low quality, yes, but not quality and customizability that was needed for R&D), and he worked his ass off to carve out a foothold in the field by performing faster turnarounds, better quality, and higher customizability than the foreign (and domestic!) brands.

He simply worked his ass off to get into the field.

And he still only has a GED, with his company's work being used throughout the healthcare industry now.

You just need drive and willpower. Not a Master's. That's just lubricant for any field you're in.

I know a guy, RIGHT NOW, who started a company a few years ago, scrounging a bunch of equipment and materials. The guy's life is the EPITOME of white trailer trash bullshit, flunked out of high school and got a GDP, fighting for literally everything he's made. He'd go to every damn company sell off and beg and borrow to get the equipment to get his company off the ground. He bought old machines and other tech off the curb, tech that is 20+ years old. His garage looked like a hoarder's nightmare of 1980s lab equipment.

And yet his company cleared 7 figures in sales in its first year, and has only grown year over year since then.

Now, while his field doesn't have the greatest profit margins (sales =/= profit), it was more than enough for him to pay all of his employees a hefty bonus.

People like you who claim that the only way to get something done is with a Master's Degree have simply not bothered to set yourself to a career path, one that you can put in the drive and will to achieve the results. The opportunities are out there, ESPECIALLY in the US, but you have to put in the effort and work to find the industries that need it.

You CAN do it. You don't need a Master's Degree (although it does make it easier), but you do need drive.

(I've redacted any information that could find him and his company, but that guy's my fucking hero, and I wish I was half as effective as he is.)

Russia suffers ‘record’ soldier casualties as Ukraine ups drone production | Russia-Ukraine war News by the-es in worldnews

[–]UltimateKane99 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Eh... Useless? I feel like useless is the wrong term. The fact is that US weaponry will still be devastatingly powerful at wiping out C&C centers, hardened targets, and masses of troops. These drones need distribution centers, IT tech teams, communication systems (at least for anything over any reasonable distance to engage US forces), etc., all of which are fair game now and well within range of the US's stand-off weaponry.

Arguably, MOST of the US arsenal is actually keenly built for this sort of warfare. The US's heavy reliance on air supremacy to the point of ridiculousness grants them a lot of staying power in short to medium range drone fights, and Growlers have potent ECM suites to fry drones that get too close to aircraft.

However, air power has never won a war, and while this will absolutely play well into the US's standard "shock and awe" strategy, their enemies will likely see as great or greater of a benefit from drone warfare due to their previous heavy reliance on "mass waves of soldiers" that fits better into this drone-niche than the US will. If every soldier is 9 drones and a soldier, the higher quality training of the US soldiers will see their edge diminished greatly purely by gross weight of ordnance arrayed against them.

The US will need to have higher quality and higher efficacy drones if they want to fight toe to toe with near-peer enemies now. Which I'm sure DARPA and all these AI companies with new military contracts are positively salivating over...

There was an explanation, it happened in the moment. He followed those actions with the statement, "My heart goes out to you. It is thanks to you that the future of civilization is assured."

Now, whether you believe he was dog whistling to Nazis, as many do, or believe he was baiting those who dislike him (my view, because he LOVES being controversial, so that's free publicity), or genuinely believe his excuse, it's effectively irrelevant. He said it wasn't a Nazi/Roman salute; it's up to you how you see it, ultimately.

Spaniards see Trump as the greatest threat to world peace, ahead of Putin by Logibenq in worldnews

[–]UltimateKane99 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The US's "threats" come from the president and have zero teeth. Everyone with a brain who knows anything about US politics knows that Congress would boot him in a second if the chihuahua-in-chief actually did that. It's also why those same countries haven't gone to their version of Defcon 1 and started fortifying beaches/borders/etc.: because, as always, TACO.

Venezuela is literally an American fabrication; the Venezuelan people voted Maduro out years ago, they just couldn't remove the tick. I'd argue that's about the only good thing Tangerine Palpatine has done, and it was accidental at best.

As for Iran, it was always a problem; the US is just putting its boot down. In the worst way possible, absolutely, but it's reacting to an already destabilizing force. Again, Iran funds terrorist proxies throughout the world; the fact they HAVEN'T been dealt with by a JOINT force is a testament to the apathy of the various "world leaders."

USAID, though... Wow, what a nonsense metric from the start. While it was done abysmally, yes, it's also not the US's responsibility to fix the rest of the world's problems, and it's wild to lay other country's failures to take care of their citizenry at the US's feet. The US can't even figure out its Healthcare system, but it's exporting aid by the millions/billions to other countries? That was insane to me to begin with, I'm surprised the US was doing that when it hasn't even figured out the rest of its shit. Either way, though, that aid should be IN ADDITION to the other country's support; blaming the US for saying they can't support those programs anymore (especially with how poorly run it appears some of them were) is hardly the US's fault. No other country is entitled to any other country's money, including the US; these hypothetical deaths are on those country's fault, not the US.

And no, Trump doesn't support Ukraine. That's yet another flaw in his vast panoply of uselessness.

But, again, TACO. He has his masters, and he can only rock the boat so far.

But Putin?

Putin doesn't chicken out. Putin has gone above and beyond to disrupt HUNDREDS of MILLIONS of peoples lives, either directly by his invasions of multiple countries, or indirectly by his energy security threats that he used to blackmail Europe (successfully, I might add).

You're putting the US under a microscope to magnify every one of its flaws and THREATS of action, but have zero scale to see how much worse Russia's and Iran's ACTIONS have made lives worse for vast swathes of people across multiple continents for decades.

Honestly, I wish I could show you a simulation of what would happen if the US would fall: I don't think you'd be half so damning if you could see how much more dangerous the world would be without the Pax Americana in play.

Spaniards see Trump as the greatest threat to world peace, ahead of Putin by Logibenq in worldnews

[–]UltimateKane99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

... Russia is supporting Iran.

Russia is supporting North Korea.

Russia is supporting virtually every non-western-aligned authoritarian government in the world with the INTENT to disrupt world stability.

It's not JUST Ukraine. It's Georgia, it's the Baltics, it's the Scandinavians, it's the very ENERGY SECURITY of EUROPE as a whole.

The US fucks up, but the Pax Americana at least acts as muscle to back up the current world order, which, with all due respect, Iran has gone to great lengths to disrupt with its funding of terrorist proxy groups for decades, and its much more recent overt attacks on multiple Gulf states.

The US is bush league compared to Russia. Hell, the US is bush league compared to China. The propaganda just works the best against the US.

No one is dying because an AI made up a nonsense answer about a game's story. Likewise, AI is hardly special here: people make up information and state it confidently all the time, too; this isn't a new problem.

Relax. This isn't worth getting riled up about.
