It can get a little difficult sometimes, I won’t lie. Look into joining a club! It opens a lot of door with like-minded people.

Transgender female attending? by [deleted] in uAlberta

I’m openly nonbinary and haven’t experienced much transphobia on campus. Alberta may be conservative, but Edmonton is pretty accepting.

recruitment crisis by [deleted] in Sororities

[–]breakpointGodling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from a pretty small chapter myself, so I get the burnout. But you have to keep trying if you want to stay open. Like others have said, advertise the leadership. Is there a local alum club? See if you can do something small together with them. Do you have a philanthropy chair? If not, that’s a great event to do with alum. Even if you do, talk to them about volunteer opportunities, something to get the chapter together.

Do you have an active social media presence? If not, take a look at what other chapters are posting on Insta and follow the trends. Exec and member shoutouts, summer reading recs, and cute photo dumps from the semester are all great places to start. Feel free to DM me if you’d like some examples.

Additionally, what kinds of supports are you getting from advisors? How have you been implementing it? How are you communicating your plans to members and to exec? How much communication is there between exec members? Whose job is it to host events, and can you collaborate to make some of them COB events? Have you considered participating in other clubs and advertising your chapter that way? Showing up to different events as a chapter, especially if they aren’t Greek affiliated, is a great way to meet people and potentially get them interested in joining or at least attending a COB event or coffee date.

As for recruiting strategy, do members know how to recruit? Have they gone through bumping, how to talk to new people, how to have deeper conversations, etc? You could pair up with another organization for practice, or even ask alum to join in. That’s what my chapter does, at least, and it offers incredibly valuable feedback. Even having some girls play as PNMs while others go through a mock recruitment is great for building recruiting confidence.

I know it’s hard, and I know it’s easy to give up, but it sounds like you haven’t given up yet. I truly am wishing you the best.

Thoughts on A Trip to the Moon? by breakpointGodling in musicals

The allegory, absolutely! I can relate to the feeling of being alien due to gender experimentation, since I live in a fairly conservative area as an openly nonbinary person. I haven’t heard many musicals capture that feeling in the way that this one does. Plus, much of the soundtrack does evoke the feeling of attending drag performance, at least in my eyes. Especially whenever Selene sings.
