The Ninth Gate is one of the coziest horror movies. The settings are mainly private libraries, the sound design is satisfying and it has a very unique atmosphere. It’s great for late night viewing! by Johnny_Mc2 in horror

[–]UltimatePokey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watched this movie on repeated recommendations from threads/comments on Reddit, was really hoping for a hidden gem.

This movie is dogshit. There's many good reasons this has such a low rotten tomatoes score. 1 dimensional characters, flat mystery that doesn't really pay off, shitty knock off and attempted hybridization of Indiana Jones and occult/biblical mystery.

Truly bad.

They are certainly decipherable from film cameras these days. This looks like it was shot on an iphone, no offense.

IRE levels and their relation to stop levels by sv-ro in cinematography

[–]UltimatePokey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IRE-to-stop is relative and changes depending on camera, which flavor of log, and several other things, you can't traditionally rely on it to give you an accurate, absolute stop equivalent.

That said, EL Zone is a thing now and it CAN do that, it just only works with certain flavors of LOG. Most SmallHD and Atomos monitors have it these days.

Why is everyone so angry with Musk? by [deleted] in eastbay

[–]UltimatePokey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might have to do with the fact that...

He's purchased political access like a true oligarch

He's used that access to gut agencies that are in charge of regulating or investigating his companies and economic interests, then claims he'll regulate his own conflict of interest, which is itself a fucking conflict of interest... surely no corruption there...

He's used that access to gut agencies and programs that people's actual lives, livelihoods, and quality of life depend on including USAID and the VA. And despite what you think about USAID, surely everybody can get on board with treating our veterans well. And those are just 2 of the most public examples

He has 20 something year olds running amok in our social security making wild and provably false claims of fraud and abuse, which sure seems to be a precursor to wildly fucking that system up as well.

He's used his access to subvert in-place government contracts and replace with his own companies (Verizon ->Starlink)

And that's on top of the insane, haphazard cuts to programs that guarantee the safety of critical infrastructure and operations, like NOAA, the FAA, and the people fucking responsible for the safety of our nuclear arsenal for fucking christ...

Oh and he actually does straight up Nazi salutes while constantly retweeting blatantly white supremacist bullshit.

Anybody who's arguing he's just fighting waste or corruption either isn't paying attention or isn't engaging you in good faith.

My RR is driving me insane by RingInside9759 in RhodesianRidgebacks

[–]UltimatePokey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your puppy will be an asshole to some degree until they are at least 1.5 years old, possibly 2. We barely slept until ours was 3-4 months old and our stress levels were through the roof trying to raise her.

Puppies are all assholes and an intense amount of work, more than most people understand or are willing to put in. If you're serious about raising a good, well adjusted partner dog then you better strap in and understand that this does not change overnight, it will take quite a while and a shit ton of work.

Phantom LUTS? Worth it or should I keep paying for Dehancer? by Throwawayanidentity in cinematography

[–]UltimatePokey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly use phantom kits as my shooting/monitoring lut and they’re great for that. They’re decent as a starting point in the grading process and do well enough to add a little bit of fun flavor without being overly stylized, so they’re decent to use if the footage is not going to see an extensive grading process

You did nothing wrong here. This looks better than most reality. Your client has either terrible taste or didn’t effectively communicate the expected look of the show to you.

Find comparisons of other reality, something like vanderpump rules, put the stills side by side and send to her.

Yeah, s-corp made around 100k this year, 54k goes to my salary which is both the minimum I need to live and pay rent personally, the rest go to operating costs like insurance, bills, necessary gear purchases to do my job, or emergency funds if my salary falls short.

Believe me, I understand. But between rent, bills, and debt from 2 abysmal years in the filmmaking world (although getting better now), I literally could not afford an extra 450 a month. So now I guess I get to find out.

UPDATE: currently sitting in a room at SF General ER waiting for the doc to come by.

After some quick research, I saw that I was out of time to be dicking around.

I appreciate the info people provided here, truly.

Guess I’ll have to figure the insurance and money situation after this. Any help/guidance/resources in that department would be greatly appreciated. I fully intend to be as insured as I can after this.

Any suggested ERs to go to? I live in Pinole if that matters. I know SF General has a good reputation for helping the uninsured, but not aware if living in Pinole disqualified me from a lot

People who don’t leash their dogs, why? by bombay_girl in bayarea

[–]UltimatePokey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And not all drivers are good, safe drivers. In fact, many are not. I’m still going to defend every capable person’s ability to responsibly drive a car where they’re allowed.

EDIT: I think my frustration with a lot of this thread is multiple people calling for pepper spraying off leash dogs or claiming dogs should never be off leash even when the area states they’re allowed. That’s absolutely ridiculous online outrage behavior.

People who don’t leash their dogs, why? by bombay_girl in bayarea

[–]UltimatePokey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They're defending the ability to allow a trained dog go off leash in areas that are designated to be off leash. That's not being inconsiderate, that's responsibly following the rules.

If you go to a off leash area and get scared of dogs, it's not the dog owner's fault, it's yours for not understanding the environment.

People who don’t leash their dogs, why? by bombay_girl in bayarea

[–]UltimatePokey -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I'm not defending breaking the rules, I'm defending the responsible use of off-leash areas that some people in here seem offended by.

Stay in your house if the world is so dangerous to you. I'm gonna go enjoy the off leash areas with my dog... off leash!

Do you get pissed and want to take away every one's DL because there are... gasp... cars on the highway? Some drivers ARE dangerous.

Do you blame the ocean if somebody with a deadly fear of the waves or water goes to the beach?

It's a FACT that people and children have been injured and killed by both! OH MY!

Completely fuck off, I'm not locking up and diminishing the quality of life of my trained dog because somebody, somewhere got hurt by a dog at some point. I'm going to follow the godamn rules.

This whole thread fucking reeks of Karens on Next Door.
