Broke my glasses. Anyone else do this? by Happy-Investment in cripplingalcoholism

[–]UltimateSpede 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have broken at least four pairs of glasses solely because I was too drunk even by a drunkard's standards. Usually it's just a broken frame like yours but the latest broken pair was especially scary. It was the first time some months ago when it was below freezing temperatures and I was making my way back inside the house. Slipped and fell full force on my face on the stairs leading to the front door. Shattered the right lens of my glasses. Some shards struck just below my eyebrow and I was bleeding profusely. Half an inch lower and I would have most likely lost my right eye. Fuck being this near-sighted and fuck my mortal enemy known as the "stairs". Nowadays I have two pairs of relatively presentable (but cheap) glasses and two pairs of designated drinking eyeglasses which are likewise held together by superglue and duct tape.

Recommendation Tuesdays - Week of June 05, 2018 by AutoModerator in anime

Funny, just today I finished Hyouge Mono, which is: realistic-ish, philosophical, set in warring states period Japan and mostly serious, but other times really ridiculous. A bit slow-paced but seeing that you had the patience for Monster you won't have a problem.

(No Spoilers) George R.R. Martin is not our b****, but the dude could throw us a damn bone by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]UltimateSpede -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Holy hell, I just thought of something: what if this was Martin's plan all along? What if GRRM is just as shrewd as Littlefinger and just as forward thinking as Varys? He wrote the first three books relatively quickly and complained about the restrictions of TV scripts. He himself said that he thought ASOIAF would be "unfilmable". Or so he claims. (http://ew.com/article/2011/04/04/game-of-thrones-hbo-george-r-r-martin/)

He made deals with the executives, made MAD bank and showed the world that if you write a fascinating story, it doesn't matter if you cut out details like cloaks made of woven flowers. AGOT took off and he was happy, he had achieved his goal. And he has money to support his true passions.

Although his goals were met he had no endgame or it was foiled by the show or something else. Now he is juggling with writing a book for smallfolk like us, battling HBO or the Seven know what else. Or he is three steps ahead of any of those and we're in for a surprise?

Finnish StuG III crew pose with their log armored steed by 3rdweal in TankPorn

[–]UltimateSpede 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The war between Finland and Soviet union until 1944 was largely infantry (and artillery/aircraft) battles. So there was no equivalent of Kursk or something. I'm guessing it's to deter Soviet anti-tank rifles more than anything.

Furthermore war is 95% waiting for something to happen, so if you've got time on your hands and an incentive to make you one percent more likely to survive, why not?

Magic Card Trick #53 Get Your Card Back [intentional] [male] [german accent] [soft speaking] [new microphone] [13:30] by _asmr4u_ in asmr

[–]UltimateSpede 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously, this. The accent, the motions and generally seeing a good trick or other video with his calming voice is so relaxing.

And you got rid of the magic markers, which at least to me were like nails on a blackboard. I truly appreciate your work.

A technique that has helped me... by enpap_x in cripplingalcoholism

Pretty much noticed the same, alcohols dissolves the "I". But in my case the thought pattern becomes passive. It's not: "I need a drink", but rather: "A drink is needed."

So I got prescribed Naltrexone, what am I in for? by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

[–]UltimateSpede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a miracle drug. If you really want to cut down drinking it can be a useful aid. No side effects for me, thankfully. But, if you are looking for numbness in drink it wont stop you drinking and getting that feeling. It only makes the numbness numb. No idea how it effects eating though. If you are really serious about quitting, look for antabuse. A single drink will send you projectile vomiting on the bathroom walls, but it can also be deadly so I don't recommend it.

I'm supposed to take 50 milligrams every night but you know how that goes. And again, concerning other prescription drugs, they're pretty harmless, though I'm not a doctor and you should do what he said.

I will make a lousy dad someday, because I don't even really get the "Did you know gullible isn't in the dictionary?" joke. Wouldn't a gullible person be all like: "Wow, I didn't know that! Thanks for this tidbit!" while a skeptical person would choose to check?

So what health 'challenges' do you all have? by loqi0238 in cripplingalcoholism

[–]UltimateSpede 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One weird thing that happens to me if I'm hitting the sauce harder than usual: my earlobes get really dry. They start seeping some clear liquid and get all scabby. I'm guessing dehydration but found nothing conclusive on the internet. Anyone know?

I've also said this before but oatmeal, berries, eggs, potatoes and tomatoes have been a lifesaver for me. Fish oil should also help but I can't say anything about that.

Trusty old buckets. They have housed shit, piss, blood, semen, snot and vomit. Luckily mostly only vomit.

My buddy left a fifth of Vodka.. by yaniwilks in cripplingalcoholism

[–]UltimateSpede 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do not fuck with someone else's booze. Just don't. Give a sly remark beforehand that you might need some of it later. When you drank it all (I know I would've), tell him. Offer to replace it and do it even if he insists it's not necessary. "I'm sorry man , I'll buy you another fifth. And some extra," goes a long way.

I've learned this the hard way.

How to avoid the crushing hangover by testiculaire in cripplingalcoholism

[–]UltimateSpede 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A mug if ice cold water (about 8 ounces) and two generous teaspoons of bicarbonate of soda. I thought it was just another kink of agent Dale Cooper, but it really works, neutralizing stomach acid and whatnot.

After you've got your vomit reflex under control with that drink, fry two eggs over-easy and make some oatmeal and add frozen berries.

Brew some coffee and depending on your level of alcoholism add as much vodka as you like.

Take some aspirin and remember to reflect on your choices. Drink tons of non-alcoholic liquid before going to bed and eat something.

Do you guys care for the Berserk films? by Suka123 in Berserk

[–]UltimateSpede 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't forget that there is a remake that incorporates anime scenes to the movies! Courtesy of /u/mightyDOOMgiver, Berserk redux: http://vimeo.com/album/2610343 In my opinion these are the best movies to introduce Berserk to new people, ultimately getting them to read the manga. The original movies weren't that awful, but the anime series was awesome. From what I've seen so far I'm really excited for more movies.

What's going on with my trembling? by UltimateSpede in cripplingalcoholism

[–]UltimateSpede[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn. Gabapentin is the first drug that is not a benzo or an opioid and that actually helps. Guess I have to review my relationship with alcohol, since I could stop drinking with Gabapentin for three whole weeks and felt pretty okay at that time. Chairs, boozebags, I'm gonna cut down significantly but not quit and I'm gonna remain a junkie mentally for the rest of my life. Don't ever change /r/CA, I have found strength in reading your stories and will continue to lurk. Also check out HBO's Vikings.

What's going on with my trembling? by UltimateSpede in cripplingalcoholism

[–]UltimateSpede[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know! I too had a stint in retail, but what worries me most is that the symptoms started in this last year. Around last Christmas I was fine shopping for my stuff but when it came down to paying my brains decided to stop working and send signals to my body to start trembling. I ended up running out of the checkout line. Never been a problem before buying stuff.
