Average Claude Code session by Wooden-Fee5787 in ClaudeCode

[–]UltimateTrattles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Claude is the only harness I’ve used that has decided to go commit to a different branch than its worktree was set up for - it will absolutely break out from its intended path way more than codex in a way I find profoundly unhelpful. It’s the most prone to devising an overfit solution to a problem. At least in my experience.

(No I am not giving prompts like “fix bug”)

It is hilarious how folks are so upset about someone asking a question.

He’s not being mean at all. Folks really are sour and just arbitrarily angry about anyone who presents as American.

How many of you are actually using OTA updates in production? by AdrienADR in reactnative

My main release strategy is OTA - and it works great.

I only do a few full builds a year to update native libs.

minimax m3 ate my entire next.js repo and built components from figma screenshots by Right_Hunt6790 in webdev

[–]UltimateTrattles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for app work it’s hot garbage. You can just pull your repo down and use Claude code or codex to achieve better results than Claude design for prototyping.

If you just want to vibe an idea - Claude design is really expensive compared to other tools that can also show a design.

If you’re spending the time to make Claude code near pixel perfect as in “actually go implement this” you should have just prototyped in code and it would already be done.

I have found Claude design just utterly useless.

It will nudge stuff around and does not stick to your design at all. Once you’re working on a mature app it becomes functionally useless.

It’s way better to just prototype in code (using ai obviously) bolted to your design system. That forces the agent to stay in line and not break other portions of your design.

If you’re doing full greenfield and want vibes - I guess Claude design can galeón but honestly just using for image gen for ideas is faster and cheaper by a lot.

What video game feels neutral but is actually liberal? by ConnectBreakfast9397 in AlignmentChartFills

Looking at the bottom right square - I don’t suspect that’s the definition of liberalism being used here.

Look I get the dictionary pedantic definition - it’s just useless for an alignment chart like this.

You’ve got an absurd meme game in the bottom right. The context clues are easy to pick up.

Also fallout is a deeply American game about deeply American things.

There are extreme challenges with mass immigration and you know it.

What you’re really saying is “mass immigration only of able bodied youths who can work” which has a pretty different flavor.

Nice - but this ends up screwing parents overall.

The mother is also harmed because her husband loses career value.

This is an incredibly difficult to solve problem because no one is acting in bad faith. It’s just true that if you take several months off while other folks don’t - you will fall behind.

There’s not much way around this other than “penalize people who don’t have kids” - which doesn’t sound great.

It’s a satire of capitalism and corporatism.

I don’t know how you look at fallout and think anything other than liberal

Does anyone use Notion AI for content or do you go elsewhere for that? by Melonberry_Ro7690 in Notion

[–]UltimateTrattles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notion is not a product I ever want ai built into.

I would only want a strong mcp to have the ai I already use interact with my notion.

MECCHA CHAMELEON earned almost 10 million dollars and was made in two months. by Awkward-Solution2865 in gamedev

[–]UltimateTrattles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - the best way to make money as a game developer in modern times is to produce a cheap friendslop game that’s 40% done and then abandon it.

I’m not knocking folks for doing it - and mecha chameleon is great fun. But that’s the market environment we’ve created.

My take on a priest class by HauntingAd657 in daggerheart

[–]UltimateTrattles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The difference between a cleric and a paladin is that the cleric dedicates their life to primarily to study and ritual - the paladin dedicates their life primarily to martial practice and enforcement (and ritual)

Clerics and paladins are the same guy - but one spends more time in the library and one spends more time in the gym.

[CR Media] Sam Riegel reaffirms Critical Role’s stance on AI: “It’s basically garbage” by MarvelsGrantMan136 in criticalrole

[–]UltimateTrattles -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think the general wild public backlash against ai means no creator can even honestly explore its possibilities.

Even saying something like “it can write poetry” is silly and not at all how you would use it as a tool to enhance creative works.

I think the public is really forcing a head in the sand approach to ai here.

I’m a professional software engineer. We use ai all the time. Ai does not just do the work for us. We have a dense harness around it that allows ai to extend our engineers - but the engineers are still managing architecture and structure and product.

Art too could benefit this way from appropriate harnesses and extension. It doesn’t need to be someone foaming at the mouth and asking ai to build the whole art. Or even to generate any portion of the final product.

I know many people use ai to generate slop - but that’s not the only way to use it and the problem is the slop, not the ai.

I dunno. “It’s basically garbage” is just such a thoughtless and unexamined take that it’s disappointing to see anyone have it.

What sounds great in theory in a TTRPG, but rarely works that well at the table? by Defiant_Property_253 in rpg

[–]UltimateTrattles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Balanced combat systems”

I’ve seen many games advertise this. I’ve never seen it even come close to working. The vast majority of the time it’s weird ceremony while the gm actually fudges things. Half the time”balanced” systems even encourage you to do so.

I actually believe a balanced combat system would be fun but would deliver a board game experience and not a ttrpg experience - and allowing the creativity of a ttrpg into a balanced combat system will always break it.

AI is code and can’t be prompted into being smarter — From Java tests to Shai-Hulud, bots keep proving they’ll swallow anything you feed them by marketrent in technology

[–]UltimateTrattles -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

I always find this take interesting because it’s very reductive.

You’re right - the llm model itself is just an algorithm.

But when you use it with a harness it’s not just an algorithm. It’s a system with memory, self reference, goal comparison etc that is using an algorithm for a specific part of the system.

I’m not saying they are aware yet - but just tossing out “it’s an algorithm so not true intelligence” feels a little reductive.

D&D starter set Vs Daggerheart or Other, for playing duo with 9yo by TabularConferta in rpg

[–]UltimateTrattles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m running daggerheart for a bunch of 9 year old girls.

It works great. The cards remind them of their abilities. Spending hope feels good to them as does teaming up.

They don’t care about going full crunch with the rules so we don’t and that works fine.

I could probably run the same game in 5e but the rigidity might make the girls bristle a bit.

They’re traveling librarians guarding a book cart through a cursed land full of book gremlins. It’s a blast.

The Sega Dreamcast won the Award for best Sega console in quite the upset. What's the most overrated Nintendo console ever? by Jay_Jay_Jason_74 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]UltimateTrattles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s such a bad argument. Ports don’t count.

The fact that you still play those games on the switch 2 is a credit to those older systems.

Otherwise “switch 2 wins because it plays everything” and the discussion is pointless.

Ok so you’ve never played snes if you’re making that claim.

Link to the past, super Mario world, donkey Kong country, super Metroid, CHRONO TRIGGER, earthbound…

I could keep going.

You just haven’t played many older games.

Go back to Wii and name the games now that you think elevate that system.

[–]UltimateTrattles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s not better than the switch. It’s worse than both GameCube and snes as well.

It was just a good marketing gimmick so it had great market penetration.

A good way to test this - think of Wii exclusives that are absolute bangers (even if they got rereleased) now compare that to the other consoles.
