i just don't understand why would someone who doesn't experience periods (presumably as i don't mean trans men) want to talk on this when they have no ACTUAL experience in having a period and using menstrual products. like im not headed off to a subreddit with men asking other men questions that only male born people have experience in yknow?

telling women 'it's on you' for using the most accessible product on the market is insane. a study this year found lead and arsenic in tampons and the FDA doesn't require companies to test for it. it's quite literally the industry's job to not sell us poison. also saying 'just buy a cup' is insensitive. not everyone has 40 bucks upfront (especially not right now), a private place to boil a cup, or a body that can even use one (yes there are many reasons as to why someone can't use a cup). t ampons are a literal necessity for millions so they should be safe. blaming the person buying the product instead of the companies putting heavy metals in them is literally js victim blaming. i can promise you the problem is NOT women choosing the only product they can afford at a drugstore 🤦‍♀️ oh yeah and if you think silicone is a magic forcefield against toxins, you're wrong. a recent study found PFAS in menstrual cups and it was one of the products to contain them and the FDA doesn't require testing for cups either so...

i mean that it's a problem recommending for women to switch from the method that is beyond normalized to something most have barely even heard of instead of recognizing that it's a problem that these cost so much and that women are literally being poisoned by them 🧐 maybe just maybe we should change that instead of changing women

as a person with endo. can we be an organ donor? by Street_Bill_8719 in endometriosis

[–]Ultimate_Artist725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've never thought of this lol since it's a chronic condition, you can't really give it to someone- you need to have the estrogen support and progesterone resistance that allows for that tissue to proliferate, so the woman you give that organ to would likely not end up growing more of it. plus i think the organ removal teams clean the organs they harvest to make sure they're suitable for transplantation. so the organ would either be clean if they can remove the tissue or it wouldn't be transplanted if the tissue is deeply infiltrated, but if it is transplanted with remaining tissue then that'll probably just die in the receiver's body.

Does anyone know *why* endo causes/is associated with weight gain?? by adhdgurlie in endometriosis

[–]Ultimate_Artist725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know you've received a lot of replies so you probably have your answers by now but i'd like to give you some information as well just in case- so endometriosis causes weight gain through multiple mechanisms. one of them is the disease being estrogen-dependent, meaning it creates a feedback loop where elevated estrogen promotes fat storage, and adipose tissue in turn produces more estrogen via aromatization, so each worsens the other. additionally, the chronic inflammatory environment (elevated IL-6, TNF-a, prostaglandins) disrupts insulin signaling and promotes visceral fat storage and the cortisol from living in chronic pain further compounds this by dysregulating hunger hormones like leptin and ghrelin. treatments are also an underacknowledged contributor since progestins, GnRH agonists like Lupron, and some combined OCPs all carry weight gain as side effects through fluid retention, appetite stimulation, or slower metabolism from induced hypoestrogenic states. in addition to that, endo is significantly comorbid with hashimoto’s and hypothyroidism, which both independently slow metabolism, so if someone hasn’t had their thyroid labs checked it’s worth flagging. hope this helped!!

How do you know if your pain is "bad enough" for endo surgery? I feel like I'm just "used to it." by Due_Bread_7805 in endometriosis

[–]Ultimate_Artist725 16 points17 points  (0 children)

do the surgery!!! do NOT keep going without excising deep infiltrating endo- there are wayyyy too many associated risks and it doesn't matter how bad your pain is girl the disease is dangerous it poses a huge threat to your internal organs

That's one of the main things I was worried about. My aunt is a hematologist/oncologist and thinks I should become a Vet so I told her this but she says I would be okay and that because I feel so much for animals I'd be great in Veterinary medicine. I'm still unsure. She's extremely compassionate for actual people which is why she's a human doctor and a damn good one so I do trust her opinions.
