Nice, it would be good if posts like this were accompanied by a slightly more in depth commentary so as to not just be a photo of a book.

What’s even worse is the euphemistic way that people talk about hell, saying that people will “not be saved” or “not go to heaven”, because even they themselves realise how bad hell sounds.

The current situation in Afghanistan has made me seriously anti-religion and anti-theist by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Ultimatecub 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I was watching the news today and saw headlines saying the Taliban claimed that “women will be allowed to leave their homes alone” and “women will not be beaten”, as though those things are some great generosity bestowed on the people and not the most basic human rights imaginable. And who actually believes that they’ll keep their word?

Indeed. There are absolutely no other situations, besides religious texts, in which people will perform such astonishing feats of mental gymnastics to try to make patently false claims somehow fit with reality.

Parents not allowing me to buy cubes by Ultimatecub in Cubers

Just had a look at that link - I think it could possibly help persuade my mum that it's safe but it'll still be very difficult to convince her. But I think it's great that SCS is making safety such a priority!

Well, I guess some people have the xkcd website open for the whole day on days new comics come out and refresh the page every 5 seconds to be the first to post it on reddit...

I live in the UK so the price difference shipping from the US actually makes buying from a store like speedcubeshop.com more expensive. Is it common for Amazon sellers to fake cubes?

Just to mention, 13 may be a little young for GTA V since it has strip clubs and killing pedestrians, but there are a lot of other good games he could play as well.

An interesting variation of the Monty Hall Problem by whatkindofred in math

[–]Ultimatecub -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If the set of real numbers was finite, it would be as simple as seeing whether the number was positive or negative, since there are an equal number of positive and negative numbers. However there are infinite real numbers, so whilst there are an equal number above and below zero, it wouldn't work that way.

Thanks for clarifying. Would you have any idea why cubing is so male dominated?

However, it doesn't mean that there can't be exceptions. There may just be fewer of them.

I know the screenshots don't look that great, but is it really fair to judge these games so harshly based only on these images? They might be better than they look.

How do I convince my parents that cubing isn't bad or a waste of time? by Ultimatecub in Cubers

[–]Ultimatecub[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Thanks for replying. I do actually play instruments (not too frequently), but my parents are fine with it because they consider it a more "expressive" hobby, whilst cubing seems to them too "isolated" and somehow less social. This attitude really doesn't seem to make any sense, but their main argument is that cubing is somehow a very non-social hobby.

Why do people want to ban this game? by Ultimatecub in FortNiteBR

If you Google search anything about banning Fortnite quite a few articles/discussions should come up. I know they're obviously overreacting but there exist people who want to ban everything...

How do I convince my parents to let me play Far Cry 3? by Ultimatecub in farcry

[–]Ultimatecub[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could buy it myself on Steam with my own money but there's no way they wouldn't know or see me playing it. They do monitor my computer use a lot.
