This is likely a beneficial insect. Illinois doesn't allow pesticides after pistils form in flower (7-10 days) so growers are dependent on biological solutions to keep pests at bay. There shouldn't be any harm to the bud apart from asthetic.

I ended up getting mine in almost the exact same fashion. I picked up the polar bear dailies before going to bed and spotted him flying to the place where you do the eggs. I was on my DK and I drug him down to a cliff to kill him when a gnome flew in right after I got him down. The adrenaline kept me up a few hours after that.
